World of Warcraft: How addicted are you?
When people are asked “Are you addicted to World of Warcraft”? The answer most of the times seems to be yes. The thing is hard core gamers seem to become addicted to one certain game and stay faithful to it, I am not saying that this is a bad thing as we are all guilty of have one sort of addictions, and there are a lot worse than WoW.

I hear so many people complaining that their partners are addicted to WoW and that is affecting their home life.

How addicted are you? Let us know, sometimes it is not a bad thing, but sometimes being addicted to WoW can destroy families and friends.

I do not believe that people can become “addicted” to a game. I think you can become “obsessed” with a game.

I am very obsessed with WoW, but not to the point where it is impacting my work or social life. I made a list of priorities and WoW is on that list, but it is not number one.

I get up early in the morning and do maintenance on my characters. I play WoW on my laptop during my lunch hour. After dinner I play for 2-3 hours 6 nights a week. One night a week is dedicated to going out with my friends (no WoW at all). Weekends I either play in the afternoon or the evening depending on my social schedule.

I take one continuing education class a week.

I hold down a full-time job. All of my household bills are paid. All of my household chores are done.

I make it a point to eat healthy. I make exercise a priority.

The difference between me and people who think they are addicted is that I take personal responsibility for my actions.

Some of my friends and family accuse me of being too consumed with WoW. I have three high-level characters and a stable of lowbies which I play purely for relaxation. I have a full-time job, a house, a husband, two grown (out-of-the-house) kids. I play at least some every day after work and a good portion of the weekend, and so does my spouse. I just got a good job evaluation, am ending a summer college class with an A, my household is in order, and I am watching my weight through good nutrition. Therefore, I tend to blow off the “addicted” comments in the knowledge that I am a mature adult who is fully capable of managing the various components of my life while entertaining myself through the game and my online friends however much I want. I have read the horror stories of people who are said to be addicted to WoW and suffering terrible consequences in their lives. WoW is a great game and very compelling, yes. But my guess is that most if not all of these people would have found some other “addiction” to fill the gap(s) in their lives that they are now allowing WoW to fulfill. In other words, they were probably inclined toward addictive behaviors and WoW just happened to be the activity they latched onto. Wow is not “bad” any more than casino gambling is “bad.” What is “bad” is the inability to take personal responsibility and keep your own behaviors in check.
