Getting Rid of Rain with Rockets at Beijing 2008 Olympics

In Beijing, China, the weather experts are pushing ahead with plans to send rockets up into the sky to disperse rain clouds.

This experiment is aiming to provide the authorities with the ability to provide more sunshine and good weather during the Olympics in 2008.

The head of the Meteorological Administration in China, Zheng Guoguang, has said that practice operations are ready to begin and he said these drills will simulate what could happen at the Olympics in 2008, as they are set to begin on August 8th next year.

Using historical weather records, Chinese officials said the there is around a 50% chance for rain at the opening ceremony and 50% chance during the closing ceremony as well.

Well we could have done with some of the technology at Wimbledon this year, perhaps it can be utilized at all major sports events in the future.
