Russia To Build 26 Nuclear Reactors
By: Daniel Chubb | July 17, 2007 | 1 CommentPresident Vladimir Putin has signed a plan to build 26 major new nuclear plants, doubling Russia’s energy from nuclear power stations.
In addition to this, Russia plans to export more than 60 nuclear plants to other countries over the next 20 years.
The Kremlin, has ordered these ambitious nuclear expansion plans to be rapidly implemented to supply Russia’s rapidly growing economic with energy. The plan includes the construction of the world’s first floating nuclear power plant.
“Russia’s economy is growing faster than anyone predicted; it’s outrunning the capacities of our energy sector,” says Vladimir Fortov, director of the official Institute of High Energy Physics in Moscow. “We’re already starting to feel shortages of electricity, even in the Moscow region.”
