The 2 scientists are working with Unilever the multinational goods-manufacturer, they have just created a face tracking algorithm which maps video of any subjects face into 3D regions like in the picture above, and this in return will determine their level of pleasure (pretty cool).
Some of the tests involved were women eating 5 different foods like chocolate, vanilla ice cream, apples, cereal bars and yogurt because they wanted to determine their reactions to the food. 28% brought on the sad expression from these women, the company Unilever are hoping to put this technology to work in creating products like reduced-fat ice creams which elicit the same response as their full-fat counterparts. Researchers are hoping to launch a consumer version of this software around about August plus they want to have a website to analyze up to 1,000 user-provided photos daily.
