A-Rod still has another three and a half seasons with the Yankees which were worth a massive $252 million, but that was for the ten year deal. The thing is A Rod can opt out of his contract this fall, which would make him a free agent; this has to be done within ten days before the end of the World Series.
The NYY have said that if he does opt out of his contract, then they will not get drawn in to a bidding war. The New York Daily News has since reported that the Red Sox will act quickly to try and push to sign Rodriguez up.
It is thought that The Boston red Sox would sign A Rod for 6 to 8 years and would pay anything from $180m to $240M, Boston have been eager to sign A-Rod up as they just missed out on him in 2003.
