Microsoft admit 11.6 million Xbox 360’s have defect, but no global recall
It now seems as if Microsoft’s day has just got far worse than that of Sony, as Microsoft has now publically admitted that not some but “ALL” of their Xbox 360 games consoles have a design defect which could lead to a terminal failure. However they still refuse to issue a recall.

Sony have been worrying about low sales of their Playstation 3, but I bet that that was all Microsoft had to worry about. Robbie Bach from Microsoft’s Xbox360 Division has refused to elaborate on the exact issue of the failure, but many believe that it is down to a dodgy thermal design management this leads to poor heat dissipation, what then happens is a component failure.

All of the 11.6 million Xbox 360’s which have been sold have this defect, but the strange thing is Microsoft has not issued a global recall. However they have extended the warranty on the consoles from one to three years.

Are you happy that Microsoft has extended the standard warranty, or would you welcome a recall?

  1. I have a coffin right now, here under my desk, shipping my 4th xbox 360 Monday.

I was told by Microsoft Support that I would get New Hardware in the next refurb.

I had asked for a brand new one with new hardware, they said I would get New hardware this time, not same brand dvd, and different heat cooling situation.
I will know as soon as I get it.

You can find out that info, on my site guestbook.

I definitely think they should issue a recall. I’ve heard of other problems besides the red ring of death such as only one light going red or the disc getting scratched. As an American, it is embarrassing to have one of our own companies give such poor service.

  3. jeremy says:

perhaps they’re not recalling them because they have no idea how o fix the problem yet. It might be something inherent in the basic layout of everything in that small little box. This is why I wait a few generations to buy a game console.

    jaime;

I’m on my 3rd year w/ my 360. I know 4 people with 360’s. of the 4, 2 died (only one with the red rings, mine - the other was my brothers, whose system wouldn’t load up his games correctly).

I was without my system for 5 days. I got a refurb, & have been enjoying it since jan, this year. I gues I can only speak for myself, but I have a working 360, it covered for another year, and it’s the best system out by a long shot.
    (hardware issues aside, that is…)

“well, to my eyes they are doing NOTHING”
um… did you know that they are reimbursing the money people paid to get their xboxes fixed; & fixing the boxes that people couldn’t afford to get fixed - for free?! That is hardly ‘NOTHING’,my friend… No ones needs a $400 paper weight. & MS is taking action, instead of still denying & doing nothing.

It sucks when it happens, but they are taking care of it now, but you all act like they are doing nothing & ignoring you. If your 360 is down, send it in to have them fix it for free!. I know it’ll be a long 5 days, but then when you get it back, you can jump online & play some games with me…!

  5. M. Wicket says:

forgot to tell you all my brother got his fixed too… in 4 days, without having to pay for it.

  6. Steve says:

yeh they may be replacing them, but with more dodgy hardware, i hope they keep on doing this as 360 fans will get more and more fustrated and maybe microsoft will leave the console market and stick to pc games where it should have stayed originally. There was absolutely no need to create the original xbox. Bill gates just wanted more money which is stupid when you are the richest man.

  7. READ THE TRUTH says:

    M. Wicket,

Here is the article you were looking for.

And the fact that you’re happy that they are taking care of the problem… How is that? You send it in, they fix it, then you get it back, then it breaks again. They aren’t fixing the problem, they’re just patching it. I don’t know about you but when I buy a product I never want to send it back for repair. Even if I only lose 5 days with out my console. That console that I paid $400 for should last its entire generation. Now imagine every product that you buy doing this. Your TV. your stereo, your new car. I’m sure with your attitude you wouldn’t mind and with this attitude these companies would continue to make crap products. It’s dumb people like you that ruin the competition.

  8. Steve says:

Show me a quote from Microsoft that says all 360’s are defective!

I live in the UK and of the 20 or so people i know with a 360, none of us have had any problems, nor have the people i’ve spoken to on live.

My 360 and many of my friends consoles were launch units and get played heavily, mine was even on top off my dvd/cable
box stack in the tv cabinet with little ventilation until i started reading about other peoples problems and moved it.

I don’t believe Microsoft has said all 11.6 million units are affected if i’m wrong show your source or appologize for a misleading article.

I’m currently on my third PS2, the first 2 having optical drive problems, 1 inside the warranty and 1 a couple of months out of warranty, Sony never admitted to the problem to my knowledge and never extended the warranty.

Having not seen a case of RROD outside of the internet i can only asume 1 of the following reasons.

    a) The problem has been blown out of proportion

    b) The problem is reigonal and more concentrated in certain shipment areas.

    c) I live in the luckiest area on the planet (not very likely)

  9. Can anyone please SUBSTANTIATE the claim that Microsoft has admitted, ( Sony, as Microsoft has now publically admitted that not some but “ALL” of their Xbox 360 games consoles have a design defect which could lead to a terminal failure. However they still refuse to issue a recall.)
I have not seen any news release from Microsoft anywhere saying “We admit all of the xbox 360s are defective”

I really would love to see where this is coming from.

  10. I also own, http://www.xbox360defective.com and http://www.xbox360recall.net So, you see, I have been battling M$ for almost 2 years saying “I believe 100 percent of all xbox 360s will fail within 2 years” That is personal opinion.

I think what is being posted on this website, saying Microsoft admitted 100 percent failure… is purely somebody’s opinion, not based in fact.

I am not from Missouri, but I say, “Show Me”!
