Microsoft admit 11.6 million Xbox 360’s have defect, but no global recall
It now seems as if Microsoft’s day has just got far worse than that of Sony, as Microsoft has now publically admitted that not some but “ALL” of their Xbox 360 games consoles have a design defect which could lead to a terminal failure. However they still refuse to issue a recall.

Sony have been worrying about low sales of their Playstation 3, but I bet that that was all Microsoft had to worry about. Robbie Bach from Microsoft’s Xbox360 Division has refused to elaborate on the exact issue of the failure, but many believe that it is down to a dodgy thermal design management this leads to poor heat dissipation, what then happens is a component failure.

All of the 11.6 million Xbox 360’s which have been sold have this defect, but the strange thing is Microsoft has not issued a global recall. However they have extended the warranty on the consoles from one to three years.

Are you happy that Microsoft has extended the standard warranty, or would you welcome a recall?

ahahahahahahaha its funny becase ive watched all the 07 conferences and in the microsoft one he boasted how much they sold, thats because millions of people have had to buy more than one 360…

You can not just come out and say all the consoles have a defect and then do not offer a recall or refund. I mean, honestly, any other company would be sued and made to fix the problem, but up until now nothing on such a scale as happened. Fingers crossed that the EU board of products will force Microsoft to offer a mandatory recall of any Xbox 360.

RECALL or my friends and me will NOT buy HALO 3.
    i sooo angry!!!
i buy a NEW xbox and it crash… then microsoft send me a USED, very bad used or refurbished xbox that eventually crash again.
i want a NEW xbox, not someone used defect xbox 360.
i love halo but we WONT buy it until we get a warranty that the NEW xbox wont crash, we will instead wait for halo 3 PC version.

Global recall! It´s the only way now. This issue has been known for almost 2 years now and MS ignores the problem and tries to patch it with pathetic warrenty extensions.

    Source link Please.

I won’t beleive it till I see it… & even if this was true, They extended the warranties to 3 years, so it’s not like they are doing NOTHING! beggars cannot be choosers… They are refunding people that paid for repairs… You all act like the bankteller cashed you check, then beofore giving you your cash, clock out & went home - with your money…

Sure the waiting sucks (I know, cause I’ve been through it) but don’t scream bloody murder when they’re fixing it, or should I say appropriatley addressing it

  7. Michael on July 13th, 2007 8:03 pm

There’s an idea - wait to buy Halo 3 until the PC version comes out. Exactly how is boycotting one MS system (xbox 360) effective when you’re supporting another (Windows Vista - similar to other new releases, you can bet it will only work with Vista)? If you want your voice heard buy a PS3.

I think within a year or so, ALL XBOX 360S will have new hardware and work fine.
OR, Microsoft will create a NEW, next gen console and the 360 will be obsolete.

    What do you think?

  9. Tomb Raider on July 13th, 2007 11:15 pm

I’m going into town next week to buy a 360. But all I’ve been hearing are these defects!I don’t care how long the warranty is, the could make it ten years and it won’t change the fact that were screwed anyway. And a recall this late is pointless. Microsoft needs to solve the issue, then mass produce the “revised” xbox 360 to replace the defective ones currently in stores. I believe I’ve made my point…

  10. jaime on July 14th, 2007 8:23 am

    –xbox360repair.biz–
    i think the second.
microsoft consoles usually only stay in market 3 years and then they stop suporting, manufacturing and selling it.
i guess the xbox 360 succesor will be anounced in E3 2008 and go to stores christmas same year…
what i dont know is if anybody will buy the new console, 100% of xbox 360 early adopters regret buy them.
    –M. Wicket–
“(I know, cause I’ve been through it)” and you are happy with how they are addressing it… many xbox 360 spent more time in microsoft hands that in their owners, who pay for a quality product that should last years, not weeks.
Sony recall millions of batterys when less than 10 got fired.
Microsoft have millions of crashed xbox, what they do?
“so it’s not like they are doing NOTHING! ” well, to my eyes they are doing NOTHING.

I have a coffin right now, here under my desk, shipping my 4th xbox 360 Monday.

I was told by Microsoft Support that I would get New Hardware in the next refurb.

I had asked for a brand new one with new hardware, they said I would get New hardware this time, not same brand dvd, and different heat cooling situation.
I will know as soon as I get it.

You can find out that info, on my site guestbook.

I definitely think they should issue a recall. I’ve heard of other problems besides the red ring of death such as only one light going red or the disc getting scratched. As an American, it is embarrassing to have one of our own companies give such poor service.

  13. jeremy on July 14th, 2007 5:23 pm

perhaps they’re not recalling them because they have no idea how o fix the problem yet. It might be something inherent in the basic layout of everything in that small little box. This is why I wait a few generations to buy a game console.

  14. M. Wicket on July 14th, 2007 10:26 pm

    jaime;

I’m on my 3rd year w/ my 360. I know 4 people with 360’s. of the 4, 2 died (only one with the red rings, mine - the other was my brothers, whose system wouldn’t load up his games correctly).

I was without my system for 5 days. I got a refurb, & have been enjoying it since jan, this year. I gues I can only speak for myself, but I have a working 360, it covered for another year, and it’s the best system out by a long shot.
    (hardware issues aside, that is…)

“well, to my eyes they are doing NOTHING”
um… did you know that they are reimbursing the money people paid to get their xboxes fixed; & fixing the boxes that people couldn’t afford to get fixed - for free?! That is hardly ‘NOTHING’,my friend… No ones needs a $400 paper weight. & MS is taking action, instead of still denying & doing nothing.

It sucks when it happens, but they are taking care of it now, but you all act like they are doing nothing & ignoring you. If your 360 is down, send it in to have them fix it for free!. I know it’ll be a long 5 days, but then when you get it back, you can jump online & play some games with me…!

  15. M. Wicket on July 14th, 2007 10:28 pm

forgot to tell you all my brother got his fixed too… in 4 days, without having to pay for it.

  16. Steve on July 15th, 2007 1:09 am

yeh they may be replacing them, but with more dodgy hardware, i hope they keep on doing this as 360 fans will get more and more fustrated and maybe microsoft will leave the console market and stick to pc games where it should have stayed originally. There was absolutely no need to create the original xbox. Bill gates just wanted more money which is stupid when you are the richest man.

    M. Wicket,

Here is the article you were looking for.

    http://www.product-reviews.net/2007/07/13/microsoft-admit-116-million-xbox-360s-have-defect-but-no-global-recall/

“Sony, as Microsoft has now publicly admitted that not some but “ALL” of their Xbox 360 games consoles have a design defect which could lead to a terminal failure. However they still refuse to issue a recall.

And the fact that you’re happy that they are taking care of the problem… How is that? You send it in, they fix it, then you get it back, then it breaks again. They aren’t fixing the problem, they’re just patching it. I don’t know about you but when I buy a product I never want to send it back for repair. Even if I only lose 5 days with out my console. That console that I paid $400 for should last its entire generation. Now imagine every product that you buy doing this. Your TV. your stereo, your new car. I’m sure with your attitude you wouldn’t mind and with this attitude these companies would continue to make crap products. It’s dumb people like you that ruin the competition.

  18. Steve on July 15th, 2007 7:54 pm

Show me a quote from Microsoft that says all 360’s are defective!

I live in the UK and of the 20 or so people i know with a 360, none of us have had any problems, nor have the people i’ve spoken to on live.

My 360 and many of my friends consoles were launch units and get played heavily, mine was even on top off my dvd/cable
box stack in the tv cabinet with little ventilation until i started reading about other peoples problems and moved it.

I don’t believe Microsoft has said all 11.6 million units are affected if i’m wrong show your source or appologize for a misleading article.

I’m currently on my third PS2, the first 2 having optical drive problems, 1 inside the warranty and 1 a couple of months out of warranty, Sony never admitted to the problem to my knowledge and never extended the warranty.

Having not seen a case of RROD outside of the internet i can only asume 1 of the following reasons.

    a) The problem has been blown out of proportion

    b) The problem is reigonal and more concentrated in certain shipment areas.

    c) I live in the luckiest area on the planet (not very likely)

Can anyone please SUBSTANTIATE the claim that Microsoft has admitted, ( Sony, as Microsoft has now publically admitted that not some but “ALL” of their Xbox 360 games consoles have a design defect which could lead to a terminal failure. However they still refuse to issue a recall.)
I have not seen any news release from Microsoft anywhere saying “We admit all of the xbox 360s are defective”

I really would love to see where this is coming from.

I also own, http://www.xbox360defective.com and http://www.xbox360recall.net So, you see, I have been battling M$ for almost 2 years saying “I believe 100 percent of all xbox 360s will fail within 2 years” That is personal opinion.

I think what is being posted on this website, saying Microsoft admitted 100 percent failure… is purely somebody’s opinion, not based in fact.

I am not from Missouri, but I say, “Show Me”!

  21. janus on July 17th, 2007 6:01 am

a recall is in order…must this be asked?

  22. Steve on July 17th, 2007 1:11 pm

Still waiting to see your source!

Why would me and about 20 other 360 users i know of want a recall when our consoles have worked flawlessly from day one.

Why did’nt you call for a recall of the PS2, i’m on my third and a 3 year warranty would have saved me a lot of cash, i don’t think i know anybody still with their original console.

  23. Steve on July 17th, 2007 1:23 pm

Yeh well we know that only microsoft can sell a dodgy product to the world and get away with it. If a source is provided for this, i will be very happy to rub it in alot of my friends faces who chose 360 over ps3, i will only have to buy 1, resulting in the 360 being more expensive overall.

  24. Steve on July 18th, 2007 6:51 am

    SOURCE??????????????????

  25. Steve on July 18th, 2007 11:18 am

yeh the steve that keeps asking for a source isnt me, the first poster.. dont know why he had to put the same name

Sorry i forgot how touchy Sony fanboy’s get.

Obviously you do not have a source but like to mislead everybody, nice fud site your running!

  29. Stephen on September 7th, 2007 11:40 pm

    @M. Wicket
You can’t be in your third year with the 360 it hasn’t been out two years yet.

    @jaime
I think if microsoft canned the 360 and released a console in a year or so it would go the way of the dreamcast. Sega did had a similar move destroy their hardware business.

    @Steve (not sure which one)
re:”Sony never admitted to the problem to my knowledge…”
Sony had a class action lawsuit against them and issued a recall to repair consoles early one. The problems had to due with a faulty disc drive. Not sure if it was the same problem as yours. For me it would have been difficult for me to find out about a recall simply because I didn’t search around the internet for consoles back then.
    ————————————————

I don’t know if microsoft has stated that there is a problem with all 360’s but I believe there is a design flaw. Even if only 10% of the consoles fail, as opposed to the retailer estimates of around 33%, I’m still worried mine would fail. I’ve had my ps3 on for a week and I’m not worried about it, but I worry playing my 360 that I’ll go to turn it on, and it work work.

In my opinion they could offer a recall and repair only those nessessary and send back the ones with the additional heatsink, assuming that it fixes the problems completely, to alleviate concerns that the console has problems.

  30. i am cool on March 19th, 2008 12:56 pm

xbox is rubbish because of this dan ashdown is a loser and simon should get a ps3 or i will poo in his nostrils - runny
