With David Beckham and his family just touching down in America the Los Angeles Galaxy are getting ready to officially welcome David Beckham, the man that Major League Soccer bosses hope will help bring football to the masses in America.
The 32-year-old England captain has yet to kick a ball for Galaxy, but that has not stopped the cash tills ringing as 250,000 new replica kits have already been ordered ahead of his unveiling.
The England midfielder is set to make his debut for Galaxy in a friendly against Chelsea next Saturday.
One major change to playing in Europe’s top leagues that Beckham will have to get used to immediately is long-haul flights. And if he does remain part of Steve McClaren’s England plans, Beckham will also clock up trans-Atlantic air miles.
A Galaxy spokesman said of Beckham’s 30-minute unveiling in front of the world’s media: “It’s meant to be low key. We’ve got games coming up and an important tournament next week.
“We don’t want players getting distracted or being prevented from training” he said
Will you be going to see David’s first match as a player for Galaxy against Chelsea?
