Apple Inc are the purchasers & owners of CUPS
Filed under: Apple News, News

The ownership of the CUPS source code was acquired by Apple Inc it has been reported and hired Michael R Sweet the creator of CUPS, CUPS will still be released under the existing GPL2/LGPL2 licensing terms and Michael R Sweet will continue to develop and support CUPS at Apple. At the moment Michael is primarily working on non-CUPS projects but he is still going to be as said above developing and supporting CUPS, so Apple have bought out CUPS and for those who do know what CUPS is, it is the common UNIX printing system which is part of the Mac OS X installation. CUPS basically implements a cross-platform printing system based on the Internet Printing Protocol and is a defacto standard printing system for Linux. Until now. CUPS has been distributed by Easy Software Products under the GNU general public license.
