Star Trek 11 Without Shatner?

Star Trek without William Shatner is like Thanksgiving without Turkey. You just don’t do it! So why, Oh why, has William Shatner revealed the news that he will not be in Star Trek 11 even though Leonard Nimoy is?

While making a radio appearance which was captured on video on Shatner Video, William said,

“There is a new Star Trek movie. So I called Leonard and I said Leonard, have you heard. He said Yes I have. I said what do you mean. He said he read the script. Is it a good script? Yeah. Am I in it? He said, there was a pause, he said No. And then he began to laugh. I went through the phone and grabbed him by the throat. He’s in it! I’m not in it!”

Hmm, something isn’t quite right here. Either the mysterious JJ Abrams is keeping Shatner out of the loop or this whole quote from Shatner has been set up to keep his cameo on the low. In an interview with the Toronto Star Leonard Nimoy suggested that both himself and Shatner had recently signed contracts giving them some approval of power over any recasting of their Star Trek characters.

This can’t be true. Surely Shatner would’ve had access to the screenplay is this were the case. Whether it’s true or not, one thing is for sure - You can’t have Star Trek without Shatner.
