Microsoft Xbox 360 Recall: should it happen

Microsoft Xbox 360 Recall: should it happen
Many believe that Microsoft should be forthcoming about the flaws in the Xbox 360, and many say that Microsoft should initiate a Recall.
Microsoft has done such a good job with the Xbox 360, and has turned around their fortune in the gaming market by doing far better than the Sony PS3. The thing is they should be more honest to buyers of their consoles and games by admitting that the Xbox does have flaws instead of lying and telling us that a 3-5 percent failure rate is standard for consumer electronics products.

What we as a consumer would like to know is:

  • Did they rush the release of the console?
  • Did they cut corners?
  • What is the true failure rate?
  • How many devices have been returned?
  • Was Microsoft aware of the extent of this problem before it launched the much revised Xbox 360 Elite?

Have your say; do you think that Microsoft should recall the Xbox 360?

Yes!! Why should people have to pay $399 for a flawed console? Thats a lot of money for a broken console. They should have been smart and waited like Sony and the Wii did. You don’t see them have problems. Not even on the launch consoles. XBox 360s were coming back everyday after launch. They knew the whole time. They just wanted to get some people to buy there stuff before PS3 and the Wii came out because that knew that they was going to lost the Next-Gen Battle.

Personally I think there should be a class action lawsuit and then you’d see a recall quicker than you can say RROD. They are stone walling because they know that there is a 30% failure rate, and a good portion of the 10million units sold are still on shelves. So they don’t want to say when they fixed it because then they would have to deal with the Best Buys, Targets, Circuit Cities who have 10s of thousands of bad units sitting on their shelves who want to dump them. Shame on Microsoft!

Microsoft should have instigated a product recall last year when they were first aware of the problem but they knew it would be a PR disaster. They used cheap components and didn’t carry out enough product testing because they were more concerned with getting a head start on Sony than selling a reliable product.

It’s insane that Sony were heavily criticised for the delays in launching the PS3 yet the reason for the delays is because they wanted to product to be perfect for launch. Only a complete moron would criticize that and only a compete moron would think of buying a 360 after how Microsoft have treated their customers. To put this simply the 360 is over 30x more likely to break down than the PS3 and people seem to be forgetting that this problem isn’t just going to go away now that MS have owned up to it. AFAIK all of the 10m+ 360’s could be susceptible to this fault and most of the ones which have been ‘repaired’ only had the damage the fault caused repaired not the fault itself.

It amazes me how anyone can still be loyal to a company that has knowingly sold them faulty goods and lied to about it for over a year.

Ok Norbit ummm.. Sony has been lying to us since before the PS2, but I suppose you forget that in your Microsoft bashing mood. Toy Story style graphics anyone? (ps2) perhaps the ability to use 2 tvs for panaramic view (ps3) How about that wonderful promise on how amazingly awesome Killzone 2 and Tekken was “suppose” to look? And have you forget the horrible horrible horrible launch failure rate of the ps2? Did you see Sony recalling all of those? I think not, but you are still backing them arent you?

Dont bash one company and forget about all the lies the one you support has been feeding you. But as far as Microsoft putting out a recall I think that would be great and would greatly help their sales in the future if they would admit they have flawed systems. Luckily for me the one I have works just fine… however they did extend the warranty to 3 years which should make alot of ppl happy, but a recall would be nicer.

Jimmy comparing a company exaggerating how good graphics will be is in no way the same as selling faulty goods and lying to the people who bought them. I’m unaware of anyone who has incurred financial loss or has been inconvinienced in any way by an exaggerated claim of graphical prowess.

Murder and shoplifting are both crimes so going by your reasoning would you give both purpatrators the same punishment?. Or would you use a bit of common sense and realise that one offense is far for serious than the other?

The failure rate of the PS2 launch was less than 5%. Sony publicly admitted what was going on and apologised within weeks of problems happening.

BTW the new warranty only covers the three rings of death, nothing else. Seeing as that’s a design fault it should be recalled not just repaired. Wow, thanks a lot for agreeing to repair a problem that you shouldnt have sold the console with in the first place.

This is the end for the Xbox. Calling a recall would only spell defeat for Microsoft and it looks like that might be there only option. They’re just trying to enjoy these last days with their 360 before saying their good byes. Microsoft has known this from launch, but has done nothing about it. I guess they were just hoping that if people invested in the system and bought enough games and hardware, they would have no choice but to either repair the console or buy a new one. Thanks MS. There is a reason why Sony and Nintendo are still in this console war and will be for years to come.

360 is rubbish and everyone says its better than the ps3! the ps3 is way more advanced and the only reason why shitboxfans are saying that the ps3 is crap is beacuse they know that in time there 360 will nolonger be able to compete

Did they rush the release of the console? YES
    Did they cut corners? YES
What is the true failure rate? IDK, OVER 33% FOR SURE
How many devices have been returned? MOST LIKELY OVER HALF
Was Microsoft aware of the extent of this problem before it launched the much revised Xbox 360 Elite? ABSOLUTLEY

I cant believe that crap movie has spawned folks with a name so close to mine, makes me want to cry. Anyways, I am on my 5th 360, they keep sending me new ones, so I keep trying them out only to get the ROD after minutes of gameplay. Hope the next one coming works, although they did send me some free live time and a new game. They scammed the world, but if they fix it I dont really care, and my ps3 hasnt crashed once since launch.

    NORTHBIT since ‘98

Aah but didn’t it take a year and a half for Halo 3 to come out? the best game on 360? Give the developers some time to get used to blu-ray and the PS3′ll be rollin’. However, I am looking into getting a 360 for gears of war and Halo.

  12. northbit on January 20th, 2008 9:26 pm

Well, I am now on my 10th 360. I am a legitimate 360 owner who has since exactly one year ago sent in 10!!!! units for warranty and repair. As soon as they send me one that doesnt crash in minutes, I will be selling its ass. I just had to repost cause I found my post here stating I was on my 5th 360 in august 2007 and now its 2008 january and I am on my 10th. What a joke M$ can just disappear and die as far as gaming goes. O ya, they have lost the HD format war so I feel a little better now.
