Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix
The all new film Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix is the 5th book in the Harry Potter series of books by J. K. Rowling and this book is about Harry Potters 5th year at Hogwarts, the new movie was announced by Warner Brothers with the same name as the book and would be released in Cinemas on 13th July 2007 in the US and a set date for the 12th July in the UK, but changes have been made and was later moved to the 11th July in the US for some apparent reason. The movie is about Harry Potter having an agitating summer and not only is he bracing himself for the catastrophe that is sure to accompany Voldemort’s return he is also stuck in Privet Drive for a month. Potter has little contact from the wizardry world that he is used too.

This movie was by far the best out of the entire Potter set. I really enjoyed the last hour where it included all battle scenes and of course Fred and George! This movie was outstanding. My friends and I saw the midnight showing and are going again this week, I encourage you all to see it! It is really worth it.

THe movie was nothing of what I expected. I believe it could have been a whole lot better. It surely did not meet my expectations. Many details were left out and information was changed if compared to the book. I know that usually movies are different tan the book but only slightly, unlike in this movie. It appears to me that not a lot of effort was put into this movie. Scenes that should have been in the movie were not there. The movie was very compressed not actually showing all of the actual details of the book. I walked out of the theatre quite disappointed.

okay,
I am a very hard core Harry Potter fan, and for the last four movies, i have completely supported the decisions of the directors and writers. However, in this film, Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix, I believe that everything to do with the book, characters, events-everything was butchered. This David Yates, I do wonder how that man is able to put Director on his resume. This film was as though Mr. Yates didn’t like what occured in the previous films, so he decide to tweek things, well a lot, and it was not for the good of the movies. Someone needs to tell Mr. Yates that if you do not like something that has happened in the past, YOU CANNOT CHANGE IT!!! This movie was a sorry excuse for a Harry Potter Sequel. It is like one of the writers just woke up one day and decided that he was going to write a movie called Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix, and there was no book ever written before. Sorry writers and directors but you still can’t do that. The only good thing in this book was that they picked a very good person to play Bellatrix Lestrange. Well if you don’t believe me, just go and see it yourselves.

I really have to agree with Angela. There was too much change. Though the special effects were awesome and definitely deserve a great round of applause, it was too different from the book. A bit too different, and with the major differences came major disappointments for me. The thing that tipped me over the edge was that Snape’s Worst Memory wasn’t as great as I had expected. Overall, I believe that though it was a give in that the movie would be a bit different from the book (I mean, come on! The book is over 800 pages long, so it was obvious that somethings needed to change) David Yates took his changes a bit too far and made them a bit too drastic. I have a lot of respect for Yates, because I must admit that it was well directed… I just wanted it to be closer to the book. If I had not read the books, I think I would’ve enjoyed it a lot more. :)

BUT BELLATRIX WAS ABSOLUTELY WONDERFUL!!!

Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix was awesome. Although I did wish they put in more parts such as when Harry, Hermione, and the Weasleys got to St. Mungo’s to see Mr. Weasley and run into Lockhart and Neville’s parents. I also wish they would have shown more rooms in the Department of Mysteries. And Snape’s memory could have been more like the book. When I walked out of the theater I was really disappointed at all of the change, but then after a while I started to think that besides all of the change I really liked it. I think I would have liked it alot more if I didn’t read the books. But yes now that I think about it, it was one of my favorite HP movies.

Order of the Phoenix was incredibly boring. I cannot imagine what all the hype is about. Some of the special effects were cool, but the “flashbacks” were difficult to interpret. I haven’t yet read the book, which hopefully will shed some light on the plot and premise of this pathetic movie.

The cinematography was really good and I enjoyed the shots of London and the English countryside.

i liked the movie a lot.But there were points in the movie that wern’t explained good. And the director cut way to much out that was important.

I am a huge Harry Potter fan. Through all out the past four movies I loved them. I have read and purchased all six books. Unfortunately, I feel this was not the best Harry Potter movie. I still enjoyed it but it definately could use some more scenes and more details. We all know there is a bit of romance between Harry/Cho, Hermione/Ron. We saw little romance between Harry/Cho and a spit of romance between Hermione/Ron. Only the Grawp scene showed little care for Hermione from Ron. There were many changes in scenes, the cast, and what the cast did in the movie. Example. In the book, the D.A. was given away by Cho’s friend Marrieta, but in the movie it was Cho her self who told. I recomend this movie but don’t expect a lot. I still continue to be a Harry Potter fan. I am just disappointed in this movie.

havent yet seen the movie… Going to see it tonight.. Ill give u my thoughts later.. ps.. HUGE HP fan.. I read HP and the half blood prince book in about 4 hours… Very stoked to see the movie.. But ive been hearin they left out a crap ton of scenes and important parts of the book.. hope to be pleased when i get outta the theater….

10. Alicia on July 14th, 2007 5:40 am

I really enjoyed this movie! The special effects were awesome and (as always) the acting was great! I, too, have read ALL of the books and am a huge Harry Potter fan, but I do not see anything wrong with the way they directed the movie. I guess that is because I am not naive enough to actually believe that every detail from a book can be represented in the movie. The earlier movies were closer to the books only because those books were a lot shorter, and more details could fit into a two and a half hour movie. As these books got longer, of course the movies were going to have pieces missing. That was to be expected–unless you would like to sit through an 8 hour long movie, and then you all would cry and complain about how it was TOO long. By the way, people (like Pam above) should not write reviews until they read the book first; then you can feel free to comment on if things made sense, and if it was boring or not. I loved the movie and can’t wait for the next one!

11. Akashic on July 14th, 2007 12:40 pm

I was disappointed with this Harry Potter film. It was like watching an episode in a soapie, no real beginning, storyline or end … had I never seen a Harry Potter movie before I wouldn’t have had a clue what the story was about and it would have been 2 hours and 20 minutes of boredom. Other than some decent cinematography and scenery it didn’t have much else to recommend it. Wouldn’t go and see another at the cinema if this is the quality, will wait for the dvd.

12. Akashic on July 14th, 2007 12:42 pm

in response to Alicia, why the hell should someone have to read the book before they go to see a movie for it to make any sense? that is just stupid.

13. Diane on July 14th, 2007 6:25 pm

Well what can I say about this film. Being a massive HP fan I have waited patiently for the biggest disappointment this year. Out of all the books Order of the Phoenix was my favourite and I have now read it several times. When I finally got the chance to see the film I thought it was total and utter rubbish. For those who have not read the book I would imagine would find themselves very lost and confused and for those who have read it would be horrified to see how badly they have butchered one of the most amazing books ever written. The Director either needs to pull his finger out or needs to be replaced before he taints this incredible creation forever.

14. Rachel Edwards on July 15th, 2007 12:02 am

Okay, all in all, the latest Potter movie deserves a 5/10.

Wait before you start bitching about why it should be rated as such.

The parts in the movie that the did show from the book, were exceptionally well done for the most part. However, again, things just seemed to speed along waaay to quickly. It’s almost as though the director and script writers try to see just how fast they can move the storyplot along this time, almost as a contest.

The Harry/Sirius bonding moments, while what they did show were good, they were also drastically cut back on. If you read the book and view the movie, and you know how much more bonding there was between the two of them through out Harry’s fifth year, you would’ve been HIGHLY dissapointed in the movie as a whole to begin with. (Again, unless you’re one of the ones who only goes to see HP because you want to oogle Harry, or Draco, or Ron, or the Twins, or Harry and Cho snogging, but if you are, then I’m sure no one really cares what your opinion on the matter is anyways. You’re just along for the ride.)

Everything concerning the Order, was barely there. Harry’s trial was a bit of a joke, as was the Tonks character. I think she got… what? Two different scenes, and that was it? When readers of the book know she was included in waaaay more than that. Ginny’s character was cut short as well, we never did get to view Sirius’s mum or the scene with all the kids and Mrs. Weasley attempting to clean Grimmauld Place and stumbling across the locket, and there was so much more that was lacking in this one.

Rather than put the time and effort into, I believe five bloody different camera pans of Harry and Cho snogging, they could’ve invested that time into other more emotional/important/lacking aspects of the movie.

Please, don’t even get me started on the Department of Mysteries, or the Veil or even Sirius’s death scene.
FIRST OFF, when Bellatrix and Sirius were dueling, she DID NOT HIT HIM WITH THE AVADA KEDAVRA CURSE, she hit Sirius with A STUNNING CHARM and he FELL BACKWARDS INTO THE VEIL!!
Now the movie producers/director/etc. have TOTALLY screwed themselves over if Sirius does indeed make a re-appearence in the Seventh book as is rumored, especially if the Potter movies manage to get all the way up to the last one. THERE IS NO COMING BACK FROM AVADA KEDAVRA!

Ugh, and they COMPLETELY OBLITERATED the scene towards the end where Harry goes to talk to Nearly-Headless Nick about Ghosts, and whether or not Sirius could return to Harry as a ghost. They also completely cut out the scene in which Sirius gives the two way mirrors to Harry, again, screwing themselves out of Sirius being able to ever contact Harry ever again, if he should indeed do so as is rumored for Book seven.

There was so much horribly wrong with OotP, if I would be to fully write out everything that was wrong with it, everyone would be reading several pages worth.

I know, when movies are produced from books, that not everything can be included and a lot of stuff is skipped over and changed. Yes, I am fully and completely aware of that fact, however the way the movie has now butchered Order of the Pheonix, is completely unjust and has me wondering if I will even go and see Half-Blood Prince if and when it comes out.

I suppose we’ll just have to see how the movie does as far as ticket sales go…

16. Rachel Edwards on July 15th, 2007 12:05 am

…aaaand as a response to Alicia above, GoF was a longer book than OotP and the movie was waaaaaay better in comparison. So you may want to check all of your facts before you post something like that first, sweetie.

17. shea on July 15th, 2007 6:40 pm

I totally and 100% agree with Rachel Edwards! A round of applause definitely goes to you!!! :) :) :)

this movie sucks, i would strongly advise anyone who has not already seen the movie to save your money.

20. r.kekona on July 19th, 2007 4:12 am

Rachel Edwards….you got it girl! This shouldve been the movie that explained a lot. Tons of key points were left out that shouldve been brought to life & unless you didnt read the book, you wouldnt notice that. Emotions are born in this story (book) but failed on screen!! kudos to you because I thought I was the only one who felt that way!!!

21. J.D. on July 19th, 2007 6:42 pm

I was a bit disappointed as well after reading the book, which by the way was the only book I read thus far from all of them.
Biggest disappointment for me might have been them leaving Ron out from making the Quidditch (sp?) goalie and having a great game to win the cup while Harry and Hermonie were out with Haggrid in the forest.
Other parts I wanted to see in movie:

Harry & Malfoy fight where Harry and one of the twins were expelled forever from quidditch.

Dobby or whatever that house-elf’s name - showing where that room was - not Neville finding it.

Hermonie, Ron, and Malfoy being prefects. (totally left out of movie)

Cho’s friend being blamed instead of Cho herself.

I guess the movie had to do what it had to do to get what it could in the 2 hour time alloted.

22. J.J. on July 20th, 2007 1:05 am

it was great

23. Nicole on July 20th, 2007 4:18 am

Just saw it, very let down!! The prophecy wasn’t even right in the movie!! I so wanted to see sirius’ mom yelling from her portrait. The fact that the didn’t even show once that the prefects had been chosen was a let down. I myself got lost for a second when they showed harry walk into the room with the family tree. They portrayed this happening way later in the movie, when it was in the beginning of the book. Very choppy. The could have easily added a half hour more to the movie and made it worthwhile. Not sure I will even buy the dvd.
