It must be said that the cheaper ones will win out when it comes to out selling the more expensive and better version, but they will not be able to last as long. You want an automotive hard drive that can withstand high temperature and massive vibrations, and you will not get that from your cheap everyday storage device.
The standard spinning hard drives are still king when it comes to the amount of storage capacity, but with huge advances being made in flash drives, these would be the more favorable type of storage drive to use in a car, as there are no moving parts that could get damaged.
The use for hard drives in cars are becoming more important, as they could would help to integrate such things like your Sat Nav and Entertainment systems, much better than a DVD or CD that we use now.
