FIC NEO 1973 Cell Phone Powered by Linux: Is it a contender to the iPhone
By: Peter Chubb | July 10, 2007
The much anticipated launch of the Linux powered FIC NEO 1973 Cell Phone has arrived, and many people will be asking the question, is it a contender to the iPhone?
For those of you who are looking to purchase the FIC NEO 1973 you can visit the openmoko.com store, it will cost $300 US for the base model and $450 US for the Neo Advanced. The phone is not designed for the everyday user; instead it has been aimed at developers.

The FIC NEO 1973 has been delayed so many times, but at last the OpenMoko phone has arrived, but is it worth all the hype, only time can tell. This cell phone carries the Linux kernel inside, and another great touch is that it is not locked to any one network.
Although the NEO 1973 has gone for the same design with no buttons as the iPhone, one thing remains and that it is not as sexy looking as the iPhone, but the next version the GTA02 which is to be released in October could well be the company’s iPhone killer.
