2010 sees the return of the Pontiac: Will it be GTO or Firebird?

Many of you would already have heard about the return of the Chevy Camaro, and that seems to be getting other car makers juices going into pushes out some old favorites. One of these favorites is the Pontiac, although they have tried to bring this car out before it failed to warm the hearts of the Americans, unlike the much welcomed Ford Mustang.

It is hoped that a new Pontiac will hit the streets in 2010 but one question remains, and that is what they would badge the automobile under. They could call it a Firebird, or maybe they could call it a GTO.
The future sports coupe is expected to have a choice of two engines, one would be a 3.6-liter DOHC V-6 which pushes out 261-hp, but another could be a 6.0-liter V8 option. The new Pontiac is expected to have a choice of either a five or six-speed automatic gearbox.

So would you rather a GTO or Firebird?

    sorry but in my eyes it has every right to be called a firebird. when the newer gto came out a couple years back, it wasnt much of a success that pontiac was looking for. so y not give the firebird a resurection and try and come back? think about it, the mustang camaro and firebird where the three best american made cars ever. the mustang continues its saga, and the camaro is going to come back. so y not give the firebird its 2nd life?

    GTO. I’ve seen some other concept designs for a new firebird, and they look more like a Firebird than this one does. bring em both back! Legends never die…

    i agree with rob it suould be a firebird because they arlready have a newer GTO and it wasnt the best seller. They should bring back the muscle name “firebird” and more will sell because of the name and the looks just add more buyers too.

    Firebird would be better, and theres a phoenix on the hood which is a firebird trademark. So im thinking it is a firebird.

    id rather have the firebird because the gto was already brought back and it didnt sell so i think the fire bird will sell because its an amazing car and it needs a second chance to thrive again

    i’d rather have the firebird. the gto was hideous and it looked like a glorified cavalier stretched with rwd and a big v8 in it. BRING BACK THE FIREBIRD!

    I would love to see a new Firebird.
    Pontiac has the GTO already!
    And they should make the TransAm version with a 6.6L V8 the way the “77″ TransAm was when Smokey and the Bandit came out

    YEA I THINK IT SHOULD BE THE FIREBIRD….ONLY THING IS WILL THIS VEHICLE LOOK THE SAME WHEN RELEASED. THIS IS A GREAT LOOKING CONCEPT BUT ALL KNOW THAT THE CONCEPT ALWAYS LOOK BETTER THAT THE RELEASED. AND LIKE MANY OF SAID THE GTO HAD ITS TURN AND DIDNT DO WELL AT ALL!!

    I agree with Brett – bring them both back, the 65 GTO rocked!! However, I am personally partial to the Firebird – I have owned 2 of them and my 95 with a 6 speed (I know and chickened out to push any further) would do 135 without missing a lick. I am a grandmother and still love fast cars – grew up when cars WERE cars!!

    Firebird for sure!!!!! I’m only 16 but i am already saving money in case they make a new Firebird. It is one of the best muscle cars ever.

    bring it back as the firebird and make all the models. formula, firehawk, transam, and base model. I had an 01 firebird and would love to buy a brandnew one with some balls. so pontiac, if you love me, make it a firebird.

    Bring back the Firebird!! I have a 2002 and before that a 1999…….. There are no cars out there i like but if a new Firebird came out……….. I think i would be first in line……… return the love POntiac and bring back the Fire

    I think the gto should get another chance. The reasons y ppl didnt buy the gto because this isnt american muscle body style,its an aussie muscle car [the monaro gts] and this was built back in 2000 and gm brought this car in usa in 2004. And two gm refused to make gto in a 6 cylinder model unlike camaro,mustang, firebird,charger,300,magnum, and cts-v. They all have 6 and 8 cylinders because of the skyscraping insurance rate. They should have brought out the concept from 99, look at the new ponitac g8 thats the new holden commodore. But i still like the trans am but i think gto should have had its own heritage designs instead of the holden monaro even the chevy lumina ss have that same body style and we dont have that in the usa. Everything is upside down.

    Yeah youre right about gto not have models in v6s. I guess u can put that with the corvette and viper but not as much torque. I tried buying a gto it was at a reasonable price but the insurance rate is like crazy.

    I’d like to see THAt body style be the Firebird/fFormula/Trans Am and the Holden Coupe 60 as the new GTO ! Given the choice I’d take the Coupe 60/GTO GOOGLE it !

    i’ve been waiting and wishing they’d come out with a new one… even though i like the older body styles better, and i love the GTO as well, but definitely the trans am/firebird

    Firebird all the way; i have owned one since i was first able to drive. 87, 94, 99 ,02 and have loved every one of them. also in the process of restoring my 1968 Pontiac Firebird 400 V8. these cars are nothing less than amazing. let em fly. Firebird all day.

    this is a great idea for a firebird but not gto plus it dose not look like a gto. Pontiac might want to look back at the styling of the older gto and base them on the new one.

    Firebird GTO mix. Why not. two legends combined into one. New Concept, new Car. Call It the GTO Firebird. that’ll solve all of this.

    firebird.
    ford came out with a new mustang, chevy with their camaro, so just like back in the day, pontiac has to follow through with their firebird.
    plus it looks more similar to the older style….and better then the competitors.

    firebird is another word for Phoenix. so if the firebird is a phoenix then it should rise from the ashes and start anew.

    It should be the Firebird. I still have my 91 firebird and these cars are classic American muscle. GTO had it’s chance for a resurrection and that ended with a loud resounding flop. I do believe the good old bird would make a fabulous come back.

    FIREBIRD, firebird is a car that has looks and performance. It has always been camaro, firebird, mustang…in my opinion gm being better. If gm wants to survive they need to sport cars to compete with the mustang

    well i think it should be firebird because its a legendary car think back to ur childhood and sitting with grandpa watching smokey and the bandit….well its a really popular car with teens and they like them and older guys like in there 50s who are retired will buy it because it reminds them of when they were young takeing out the firebird and racing there friends….im just saying people have memmories with the firebird not so much with the gto… the gto was a nice car but didnt have the flair every one was looking for

    I think it should be called a “firebird” GTO aren’t really that great. I own 3 firebirds. And if they call the new car Firebird. I’m 100% that i’ll buy it.

    The reason that the fire bird sold more was cuz it costs less than the GTO!!!! Although I would never buy a pontiac I liked the old school 77″ trans am. I also think it might be the new trans am cuz its got da bird on da hood!!!! TRANS AM!!!!!

    Well from the image with the pointed nose and the classic firebird image on the hood all hands down FIREBIRD!!!!! The GTO had its change to come back a few years back. the firebird needs a chance to come back. But one suggestion bring back the T TOPS that would make this car. And six speed stick.

    all of yall are stupid infact this looks more like trans am second firebird while awesome it is not the machine the goat or the the judge where if the dumbfucks at pontiac would have went with the orig prototype it would have put them in another league but if they even use this model it should be GTO

    Well, just look at it. Everything about it says FIREBIRD! They captured the best of the firebird looks if you combine all years from 60's thru 2001. What a great job, and a great looking car! Where can I get mine? (After I become employed again, of course!)
