Taiwan Reduce Electricity Consumption by 85%: traffic lights to LEDs
At a cost of NT$229 million (US$7.0 million), Taiwan’s Ministry of Economic Affairs has put aside this sum of money for the next three years. The money is to be used to change all the traffic light in Taiwan, and change them to LED-based ones. Taiwan’s Bureau of Energy will start the change from 2008.

At the moment Taiwan has 350,000 traffic lights which use LEDs, and in the next three years the remaining 420,000 will switch to LED lighting. The total amount of power that will be saved from this is estimated to be about 85%. MOEA has also added that once all the traffic lights have been changed to LED’s, then they will more on to using these energy saving light in street lamps at specific roads.
