289 Foot Maltese Falcon Cruising
The 289-foot Maltese Falcon which is the creation of Tom Perkins, this man has done it all to beat the impossible. He has made his mega fortune and conquered Silicon Valley; he has even been Danielle Steel’s 5th husband. His capital firm called Kleiner Perkins Caufield & Byers was an earlier backer of companies such as Google, Genentech and Netscape, but this was enough for the man, he wanted something bigger and better and something a little crazier. The idea came to him, he went on to build the biggest mega yacht in the world, it would hold the most advanced technology for a single hulled sailing mega yacht, it was born in 2006 in the spring, his dream finally came to life.

Maltese Falcon

Can you really define mega yacht, many people say that a mega yacht has to be over 250 feet and with Tom Perkins 289 foot Maltese Falcon this surely is a mega-mega yacht. The 289 foot Maltese Falcon is a heavy 1,367-ton, it is that big that if this yacht was anchored in New York Harbor the Statue of Liberty tablet in the arm will feel the tall masts (now that’s big). It is the largest privately-owned sailing yacht in the world at 88 metres (289.1 feet). Ken Freivokh Design were the appointed designers (after an invention from the German engineer Wilhelm Prölss). The yacht was constructed in Tuzla, Turkey by the Italian firm Perini Navi. The Falcon was the third yacht built by this firm for Perkins.
