Following the post on the smoking ban yesterday we have since found out that you can still smoke in the House of Commons.
It has been said that the Houses of Parliament are part of the Palace of Westminster and are technically exempt from the smoking ban, but it’s likely they will conform anyway.
BOLTON MPs have blasted fellow politicians who say they plan to continue to smoke in the House of Commons after the ban is introduced on July 1.
David Crausby and Brian Iddon are demanding their fellow MPs set an example for the rest of the country by banning smoking in Whitehall.
David Crausby, MP for Bolton North-east, said: “It’s absolutely ridiculous for MPs to take this line. If a law is good enough for the public then it’s good enough for politicians.
“There are no excuses for this kind of behaviour. The same rules apply to everyone and members of staff in the House of Commons have the same rights as those anywhere else to be protected from cigarette smoke.”
What gets me is that last February MPs voted with a massive majority for the Smoking ban.
So here we go again one rule for the public and another rule for the MPs they are the ones who wanted this ban so why cant they follow it and set an example to the public they are know different to us they just work for the government.
The ban was introduced at 6am on July 1 and anyone caught flouting it will face a £50 fine this should apply to MPs as well.
What do you think about this should MPs be given the special treatment?
Should they be allowed to smoke in the House of Commons?

Should MPs be allowed to smoke in the Commons? Absolutely not for the Commons is public property but on any and all private property such as pubs, clubs, cafes, etc. WHERE THE OWNER OF THE PROPERTY ALLOWS IT then there should be no law interfering with the owner’s right to decide.
Should MP’s be allowed to smoke in the Commons? NO. Not when they have imposed their nannying again on the British public. It is one more example of their “Do as we say, not as we do” attitude. Anyone remember the 24 hour bar in the commons, all day alcohol for the people running the country, when the rest of us couldn’t even have a drink on Sunday afternoon?
We as taxpayers employ these people. They should remember who they work for.
I am totally behind any decision that allows MPs to continue smoking in the house of commons….who knows..if we’re lucky they all might finish…what Guy Fawkes started!!!!

The House of Commoners should keep smoking, how else are they going to continue keeping up the SMOKE SCREEN that they have become accustomed to.
