AMD Quad-Core Barcelona Processor
AMD (Advanced Micro Devices) from August 2007 will be selling its Barcelona quad-core Opteron processors, these are the answer to Intel’s current product-line but soon some stiffer competition will be released.

Running at a clock frequency up to 2GHz are the Quad-Core Opteron processors which are available in low-power and standard versions.

In the fourth quarter we will see some more power-hungry special-edition versions that are much faster, but the priority will go to the AMD standard and low-power products as they are in a higher demand apparently.

Corporate vice president of AMD’s workstation and server division (Randy Allen) has said that they will deliver the highest levels of performance-per-watt the processor industry has ever seen.

Time is the only factor that will tell if this gives AMD the success that they so greatly need.
