There’s no denying that Lexmark is one of the top dogs in the printing world. They’ve been the main player in expandable laser printers, which grow with you as your business develops. By offering more paper trays, collation and stapling facilities, separate feeds for envelopes and special media, Lexmark can offer something that most business will need as they expand meaning they will be top choice when it comes to printers.
The T642 is another example of an expandable laser printer which starts as a uncomplicated, quick standalone printer but, as your business grows it can grow with you into the large workgroup or small departmental level.
The T642 isn’t small though, it will stand tall on your desk and has a footprint of nearly half a metre square. It uses a paper bath and feeds from a 50 sheet tray at the bottom to an indented tray in its top surface. Once you pull down the front panel, you’ll reveal a multi-purpose tray which can take a further 100 sheets.
Want more? Well you can install up to three extra 500-sheet trays, a 2000-sheet high-capacity tray and a duplexer (there isn’t a duplex as standard with the T642). As your business grows you can add mail sorters, three separate output bins and a stapling finisher.
One downside to the T642 is that there isn’t a network socket, just a USB 2.0 and parallel.

Once up and running, you’ll find the T642 very easy to use. The printer driver offers what you’d expect from a printer of this standard including multi-page per sheet printing, watermarks and overlays.
Amongst all the other features the T642 has up its sleeve, there is a print and hold facility. This means you can initiate a print from a PC but not complete it until you’re at the computer. By entering a four-digit pin on the printers control panel, you’re able to output your document. This feature is excellent if you have private documents that you need to print on a shared computer.
