Tony Blair and his wife Cherie attended Buckingham Palace to formally tendering his resignation to the Queen.
Now the new Prime Minister Gordon Brown will now be asked by Her Majesty to form a new government.
In the last ever Prime Minister’s Question Time in the House of Commons for Tony Blair he was given a standing ovation by MPs

In the traditional fashion Tony listed his engagements for the day including the usual morning meetings with ministerial colleagues.
“I will have no such further meetings today or any other day,” he declared to laughter and cheers. Conservative leader David Cameron paid tribute to Mr Blair’s “considerable achievements” in Northern Ireland and the developing world.
He concluded by wishing the Prime Minister “every success whatever you do in future”

As well as quitting as Premier, Mr Blair is also expected to step down as an MP to take on his new high-profile role as a Middle East envoy.
US officials have said Mr Blair will be named as negotiator for the Quartet powers - the US, UN, EU and Russia - later on today.
Mr Brown is expected to enter No 10 just before 2pm today after he has delivered a brief address to the nation for the first time as Prime Minister.
He will then begin finalising details of his Cabinet.
The full Cabinet is expected to be announced by lunchtime this Thursday.
What do you think will Gordon Brown make a good Prime Minister?
Do you think he will be a better Prime Minister the Tony?
