The Alchemist is a bestseller the world over and has been translated into 56 languages. That, however, is simply not enough and the book is set for the big screen with super-scribe Laurence Fishburne on board to write and direct the film.
The Alchemist follows a young shepherd in Andalucia who has a dream about a buried treasure that it to be found near the pyramids. The shepherd sets off in persuit of his dream but, like with any good film, finds obstacle after obstacle in his way. Although tempted to give up, the shepherd continues to search for his dream.
Although searching for your dream does seem a little Disney fable-like, there are some great philosophy and religion tones as well as legend and history that are screaming out to be staged. This film could be the next big novel-to-screen hit.
