Many of you may have heard of the Microsoft IPTV software platform, which Microsoft has announced an update and new name (now Microsoft Mediaroom).
I love the name a lot more as Mediaroom describes what it’s all about, but it’s not just a good name as the new software features several new capabilities including digital terrestrial television support, dynamic picture-in-picture capabilities, in-home personal music and photo sharing.
If you’re a developer you have a tool to develop TV-based applications for Mediaroom in the form of the new Microsoft Mediaroom Application Development toolkit.
So with the inclusion of home network media sharing capabilities, do you think that this new service from Microsoft could create an Apple TV killer in the form of an IPTV set top box?
I would really like to see the Microsoft Mediaroom platform used on the Xbox 360 for IPTV…that would even make me buy another Xbox 360.
