Britain’s Got Talent Winner Paul Potts
Britain’s Got Talent Winner 36 year old Paul Potts who currently works for Carphone Warehouse sang his way to victory last night.

After he opened the show with a performance of Puccini’s Nessum Dorma, Paul received a standing ovation from the live studio audience and was unanimously praised by the programme’s three judges, Simon Cowell, Piers Morgan and Amanda Holden.

When he was declared the winner of the show and that he will now perform in front of the queen Paul Potts was close to tears and said that performing for the Queen ‘means absolutely everything’.

He added: “I cannot believe it at all, I’m like jelly. Thank-you for believing in me, it is absolutely bonkers.”

Simon Cowell said: “I’m so proud of you. Next week you are going to be in a recording studio making your debut album.”

Fellow judge Piers Morgan told him: “You deserve it I can’t think of anybody better to represent this show.”

As well as receiving a cheque for £100,000 the tenor will now perform in front of the Queen at this year’s Royal Variety Performance.

Paul has not sung since a near fatal motorcycle accident in 2003 and his victory is perhaps tinted after it was revealed that he has received professional voice training.

He has even performed at a master class in front of Luciano Pavarotti and Katia Ricciarelli - leading to accusations that he held an unfair advantage over the other five finalists.

Paul Potts beat six-year-old singer Connie Talbot, who gave a touching rendition of Over the Rainbow which she had learnt performing to her terminally ill, bed-ridden grandmother. Connie is now set for a bright future after being provisionally signed up to Simons own record label, Sony BMG.

After Paul Potts was confirmed the winner Simon Cowell said that ‘Britain’s got Talent’ has been the best show he had ever worked on.

What do you think about the show did the right person win?
Did Paul have an advantage over the other contestants because of his training in the past?

Paul Potts deserved to win BHT.
Other contestants also had training whether it is at a ballet or dance school or a mother or father who advised.
He should be popular to sing at rugby events with the World Rugby Cup coming up.
He has a wonderful voice and I will buy a cd.

Paul Potts has captured the hearts of fans around the world, not only because of his talent but because of his story. He survived a burst appendix, a tumor on his adrenal gland and a serious accident. Yes, this humble man struggled to get training in the music he loved. Like others in the contest who also had training or advice. His is a wonderful story that so many have loved. My best to Paul. We will all be waiting for his cd.

Paul Potts DEFINITELY deserved to win. First of all, I am willing to bet that there wasn’t an act on the show since the semi-finals where the contestants didn’t have some form of teaching over the years as well as coaching for this program. Also, I am a professional musician and I can tell you a few lessons here and there and ONE masterclass doesn’t make you a good musician. Paul Potts has a natural talent that was cultivated over the years by Paul Potts. He was simply smart enough to get pointers here and there. I love listening to him and I can’t wait to see where his career and life goes. Best of luck to him.

I was delighted that Paul Potts won. His voice is amazing, and he sings with passion. Connie is also exquisite, maybe she is an indigo child? But hopefully she has her life before her, I hope not to have seen the last of her.

Such a humble man with such a big voice. He should bring a smile to the queens face.

I saw Paul on a Good Morning America segment. I have never considered myself a fan of opera or the like, however, I could feel and see his PASSION. This in itself was very moving. Thank You Paul, not only for an introduction to something that I will view in a different way, but for staying strong in the face of adversity.

The doors are always open for people who deserve a break in life….Paul got his when he sang his heart out… about his voice training…. on American Idol they always tell the contestants to try harder and get voice training and come back next year; so why should his training be questioned…I say God Bless him…and hope his dreams come true…but I do believe that Simon had something to do with his coming on the show…. and winning…but that’s a good thing…Simon has a good soul…
