Truly the golden age of gaming: Xbox 360, Sony PS3 and Nintendo Wii

After reading many comments from everyone over a few different posts about the 3 main next-gen consoles (Xbox 360, Sony PS3 and Nintendo Wii), all I see is everyone trying to convince everyone else which is the better games system.
The facts are that all have qualities in their own right and while each may also have faults we all certainly have our favorites (well I like all 3).
What I do not understand is why most people are fighting each other when this truly is the golden age of gaming.
We have read the problems that people claim the 360 has had and the lack of this and that on the Playstation 3 and the lack of this and that on the 360, then there is the Nintendo Wii where many talk of gameplay before graphics and PC Gamers say they have the best graphics overall…lets all stop fighting.
Who here can admit we are in the golden age of gaming? and should all talk how good games are (or bad) and not which is the better games system (as you will never change people’s minds when they have a strong belief).

go on preacher. you speak the truth
Well, the problem with discussing how good games are that the majority of gamers will quite simply say “The graphics are rubbish, it’s on the Wii”. I admit that this is really the best generation of gaming thus far, as there’s more options on the market to choose from. I just wish people wouldn’t actually argue about it. You don’t see people arguing over what TVs are better, or what DVD you should buy! Even PCs don’t have this problem, and they’re the most versatile piece of hardware out there!
i’ve been saying this for a long time on forums.
it IS the golden age of gaming because we can play all these beautifull next gen games, but we can also play all these great old games.
To fully enjoy this “gloden age of gaming” you have to have all three consoles though….. and luckaly, i have them
It is clearly understandable why people fight about the different gameconsoles on the market, I will explain why.
When you buy a gameconsole you buy a entertainment system mainly to play games on. All the fanboys, more than others, understand that hardware without software is nothing. You need a lot of gamedevelopers that make games on a gameconsole. These developers invest most in the systems that are the most popular. When you have bought a gameconsole you want a lot of good games. If that system won’t sell gamedevelopers will drop-out and the system will die.
Think of it this way. You buy a expensive hd-dvd player, but this systems dies and you can’t buy hd-dvd’s to play. Then you’ve gotten a player that’s useless.
Many gamesystems have died this way in the past: Jaguar (atari) - saturn (sega) - dreamcast (sega) - N-gage (nokia) etc. So buying a gamesystem, for gamelovers, is involved with a lot of emotions. It’s their hobby, their live. And when they hear their system isn’t doing well they miss out a lot of good games. That’s why these people argue with each other on the internet about these gameconsoles and not about televisions. They are emotional attached to the console. And don’t forget that not everybody has the money to buy all the three systems and buy games. If this was true then you are right it’s a truly golden age for gamers (that have all three). But when you got stuck with the loser then believe me you don’t feel golden at all.
A television is a piece of hardware and if it will sell successful or not that does not influence the quality of the product. With gameconsole it’s the other way around. A pc is just hardware, and you can play all games on different systems (if you got good hardware). When you buy a ps3 and grand theft auto won’t come too this system you just can’t play this game, or you have to buy an other system. Understand that’s the main difference between a pc and a gameconsole.
I agree this is the sequel to the first golden age of gaming.
I remember when it was just Nintendo..then Sega arrived shortly after. And for the most part we (gamers) coexisted and enjoyed gaming immensely. Trading games, going to a friends house and playing two player, holding a Street Fighter contest (Dam Peter with his cheap moves on Chun Li). This was before internet and forums. Truly the first golden age of gaming. It was all about having fun.
Now here we are (most of us anyways) 20+ years later. Divided and passionate about gaming more than ever. Defending our console of choice through forums, articles, media, etc. Fighting amoungst the very same people (in some cases) who enjoyed gaming with you during the first golden age. This system has this and this system has that. Well your system sucks and your system isn’t selling. Come on guys we’re adults now (those from the 80s anyway hehe). This bickering and arguing is old and unnecessary.
Now the media, journalists and even other gamers classify us with labels like, casual and hardcore. Games now have this distinction too. These labels and divides are ridiculous to me.
This is the second golden age so lets start acting like it. We now have 3 consoles that all deliver a different type of gaming experience, not to mention they all have backwards compatabilty. Some of these systems even have a service that allow us to relive games from the first golden age, including games from systems that are now dead.
Most of us now have particular preferences in games and so the industry has given 3 choices with similarities and differences that you’d think satisfy everyone. Some have 1, some have 2, some have all 3. Do we really need to argue about this? The answer is no. What we need to do is respect all systems and all gamers despite the differences. Screw all the labels. THIS IS GAMING! Plain and simple. Our goal here is to have fun! So lets get together and enjoy gaming the way it is meant to be enjoyed. Stop the mindless dispute and enjoy the second golden age in gaming. Its a sight not to be missed.
I think the Xbox 360 beet the wii and the ps3. Because the ps3 has flaws and glitches and freez ups a lot. The wii has bad graphics but its a family system thats fun, but it has not acomplish the games, because some of the wii games suck. The Xbox 360 has the best games and the best graphics there is. I think the ps3 needs help from microsoft and plus the games. The wii needs help from the graphics and the controller. Microsoft kick the wii and the ps3 fair and square. The ps3 is a 1.0! The wii is a 7.0. The Xbox 360 is a 10.0.
You see this is what i’m talking about. Nobody knows what system has the best games in 2 or 3 years but Austin… yes he knows (fanboy), He’s just scared and nags about the two other systems. He also knows that the games that came early on the xbox360 weren’t good. And now they are. In one year the Wii and PS3 will also have great games just wait and see.
if you move the x box while playing it scratches the game.
