After discounting the mummy 3 as her next venture, Rachel Weiz has agreed to star in Peter Jackson’s The Lovely Bones. This book to screen movie is long awaited amongst Alice Sebold fans and Weisz will play the mother the young girl who features in the story.
Considering Peter Jackson’s previous movies, The Lord of The Rings and King Kong, this is set to take Jackson to deeper, darker levels and will be a project that will test his directing and writing abilities (Jackson Co-Wrote the project with Philippa Boyens and Fran Walsh.)
For those of you not familiar with the book, The Lovely Bones is a story told by a young girl who was raped. It’s not so straight forward though as the young girl has been murdered, her body hidden and is narrating from heaven. She helps the people she has left cope with her death and also tries to aid the police in their investigation.
Filming is set to start in October and a release date is not yet known though I assume it will be early 2009. As a fan of the book I can’t wait to see this film and I think that Rachel Weisz will put in a performance that is worthy of the book. What do you think?
