New YouTube API
When it comes to online video they do not come much bigger than YouTube and the news that they are also bringing a new YouTube API is heaven for people that want to create video mashups.

Developers are building mashups built with the YouTube API every week (if not day) and many have said the YouTube API is due for a change.

With Google buying YouTube it was obvious that more Google integration would come and at the Google Developer Day news was released about the transitioning of the API to use the Google GData formats and protocol.

New YouTube API Features:

  • Developers can leverage GData resources, such as client libraries and developer guides
  • Setting us up for write feeds later in the year by using the authentication models
  • Standardizing on an existing framework - easier to mash up with other GData APIs
  • Better scalability/stability/flexibility
