The Mac Mini maybe small and able to hide in many places but it does lack on the video playback side of things and this is just what a tutorial will show you to make better.

You can increase the video playback support of your Mac Mini and improve your overall FrontRow experience thanks to a cool How To on howtogeek.com.

What they show you is a 3 part tutorial with part one covering setting up your Mac Mini as the heart of your entertainment center, part two goes into alternate video codec’s as when the Apple Mac Mini is pulled out of the box it does not have much in this area and part 3 is on the way.

The backend for FrontRow’s movie playing capabilities is QuickTime and it only supports a couple of formats and this does not include WMV, Xvid or DivX.

So instead of re-encoding all of these files H.264 using a tool like FFmpegX, you can use a much simpler option by just playing them in FrontRow.
