A reality TV show which claimed that it would follow three young patients competing to win a kidney transplant has been revealed as a hoax.
The Big Donor Show which was created by Big Brother producers Endemol has sparked an outrage when it was announced by BNN.
We were all led to believe that a drying woman was going to choose one of the three contestants with severe kidney disease to receive her kidney.
Now this sick company Endemol has just announced that the programme was a hoax intended to create awareness of the shortage of donors in the Netherlands.
The shows terminally-ill patient was in fact a healthy actress and the three contestants trying to win the kidney are genuine and are still in need of organs but all knew the programme was a hoax before they agreed to participate.
Everyone with an opinion seems to acknowledge the other side’s views but it is not right the way they went about it.
Defenders of the show acknowledge that it’s tasteless, but say that the degrading spectacle is worth it to draw attention to the need for organ donors. This I think could have been done in a different way.
What do you think about this was it the right way to go about it my personal opinion is that you can make people aware of the need with out doing a show like this.
Do you know what I don’t understand is how can they do a hoax like this to me this is very wrong I understand that they need more donors but this was not the way to go about it.

This show was absolutely brilliant…There was no better way to get attention for this problem than to do it this way..
Dear Kerry,
I know you probably have made up your mind about the show being a sick hoax. Still, I would like to point out that overnight there have been 30.000 requests for new organ donor forms in The Netherlands as a direct result of the show. I agree that the show pushed the limits of what is decent, but in light of the goals I find it a “fascinating stunt” that probably won’t work again.
Sincerely,
D. Backer
I think it was a great and successful show. Directly resulting in an enormous number of donor registrations. What more do you want? Besides, it’s a good stunt. TV is boring enough already.
