Microsoft Has 1 Week to Respond to Xbox 360 Scratching Problems

Microsoft Xbox 360 Scratching
This is old news that the Xbox 360 has been scratching discs and Microsoft has promised to look into the problem, but what is new news is the fact that the European Commissioner for Consumer Affairs is not happy.

Meglena Kuneva (EU Commissioner) has gave Microsoft exactly one week to respond to the problem of the 360 damaging media and to detail how the company has handled the bad DVD drive situation in the Netherlands.

Microsoft will also have to tell the European Commissioner how many complaints have been received.

If things go from bad to worse it may come about that the European Commission force a recall of the Xbox 360’s in the Netherlands.

It is all resting on how Microsoft handles this problem as they could end up in legal hot water.

If you own a 360 that scratches discs then please leave a comment.

My 360 will scratch a lot of my discs and it drives me crazy! they should make a recall in the US or refund us for all the replacement games we keep having to buy

My 360 scratched discs. Microsoft support instructed me to return the discs (one disc was several months old) to Walmart and had me send my 360 away (that took 2 weeks). This is my 3rd 360, the first (launch day purchase) got a “red ring of death”. The replacement is the one that scratched discs. Also my HD DVD accessory quit working and Microsoft instructed me to return that to Walmart as well. Good business plan, if it breaks return it to Walmart.

I had a 360 back in May 06, lightly scratched the demo disk I got in a magazine in few hours. Not enough to make it unreadable yet but if it kept reading disks it would eventually. Called xbox support they said it was not a defect. Returned it to the store, got a full refund. Glad I didn’t buy a game yet, canceled my preorder of Oblivion.

Microsoft needs to fix the 360 and lower the price before I will consider getting one. Thankfully this didn’t cause me much frustration or any money.

Ive had 3 xbox360s. My first 2 just scratched my games after around 2 months! so i take everything back all the time to get a replacement, so i havent lost any money yet. On my third Xbox and now maybe i think it has stopped sratching the discs!!

Strangly though i have noticed that my new xbox has a different DVD drive to the other 2, this may have been why the last two scatched discs!

I agree with John that microsoft should fix it. But Xbox360 has such an awesome line up i could not consider changing over too another machine, also ive spent like so much on random xbox360 stuff such as the wireless steering wheel.

My 4th 360 has just come back from having another drive fitted. it scratched 2 cod2 disks and my gears of war disk.
Microsoft will only replace if its one of their games, and even then they want money.
Its disgraceful that a manufacturer can sell substandard goods and get away with it. They might want to look at the amount of broken headsets too.
Much more of this and I’m off back to my SNES to play mariokart.

My 360 scratched my Call Of Duty 2.

I’m went through 6 crashbox 360’s, not due to scratching discs. They all red ringed..yea thats right.

I’ve since purchased the far superior designed playstation 3

!!! Thats the reason for the high game attach rate per console, many have to buy the same game 2 or 3 times.

i could not finish gears of war, cause my xbox 360 scratch the disc before i finish it.
i dont care if they change my xbox for free (i doubt it) it already angry me, i will spend time and effort shipping it, making calls (not to friends but support, so no very happy calls) and will lost many weeks of play waiting for the new console (hope they send me a new one), if anyone have no problem and are happy sending 2 or 3 consoles for replacement, they just are morons.
i never need send my tv, microwave, toaster, mp3, etc for replacement, what the hell microsoft is thinking, thats not normal, damn policy of selling crap and fixing it with patches or replacements, better sell something with qulity control.

None of you $ony fanboys even own 360s, why don’t you go and play your favorite folding@home game.

  13. Genc on June 4th, 2007 7:33 pm

    Wow,

there’s lots of Sony fanboys here pretending to own 360’s, nigel’s the funniest one though, lol what a loser.

I purchased a 360 at launch here in the US nearly 18 months ago. It broke down within the first two weeks. MS sent a replacement which broke after 2 month and ate two games. 3rd times a charm right? wrong, that lasted 4 months. After receiving the 4th unit from microshaft I gave up and sold it. I know own a ps3 and wii and couldnt be more happy.

Its obvious microsoft rushed this console, now day after day its still happening to 360 users. I will never buy a shoddy ms designed product again.

3-5% defect rate my ass, more like 40-55%. A recall is definately in order.

  15. LogicPTK on June 7th, 2007 5:29 am

Im a sony fanboy for good reason, and your all complaining about it.

i have had 4 friends i see daily buy 360’s from launch and for a year while i was waiting for the PS3, one mate sent back four and still has problems, 2 have only minor niggles and are yet to need returning, and the fourth was sent back 3 times before the PS3 launch and 2 times since.

most were returned without fixing the prob or having a different problem.

you get what you pay for! Unless you pay microsoft

  16. One Eye Mike on June 12th, 2007 4:33 am

Playstations dont break because their is no good online to put the console to the test. Us Hardcore play till it breaks and then buy another one.

  17. stellarguy on June 19th, 2007 7:00 am

my 360 made a lot of minor scratches on my games and it turned really bad my last game was gears of war i play for a week and and then stop reading it
