This is the comment of the week by YO on the Sony PS3 VR 3D Game Controller post, well done and thanks to everyone for all your comments and feedback:

Haruku.
This is what Sony has been talking about all this time. Ever since the movie Minority Report in I think 2001 Sony has said they’ve always wanted to replicate the motion gloves that Tom Cruise uses. There are inteviews from Phil Harison dated in 2002 with him talking about motion control and patents that have been filed with motion technology all way before Nintendo had the idea to add motion control. Sony copied Nintendo? give me a break. Sony has interviews, article wriiten upon it, patents filed all for motion control and eyetoy with motion control all before Nintendo announced it. Nintendo came up with motion controllers first why becasue they announced it first? no its not who announces it first came up with the idea first. You have motion control for the PS2 so because Nintendo annouced it for the Wii does this mean Sony can’t have motion for the PS3? Bollocks to that, Nintendo copied and they are ruthless business men just like everyone else. You are in a belief that the boses at nintendo are angels.
And Sony hasn’t lost Metal Gear, it has to be announced that Metal Gear is going to 360 not rumoured. If you believe in rumours than heres one for ya, Nintendo is leaving the console race. But then you only choose what you want to believe as long as it make you happy and its possitive towards Nintendo. Developers are praising the PS3 more and more and there is going to be more Killer apps this year for PS3 than any other console. You also now getting developers building their codes for PS3 and then going to port them to 360. It was 360 first because they have been making these games for a while now and only had 360 development kit long before PS3 kits, so they’ve had no choice to develop for the 360 first. Now that the PS3 kits are there and Sony providing them with more tools and better support. The developers are slowly getting grips with the PS3’s arcitecture and staring to develop for PS3 first. More developers are coming out saying how powerful the PS3 is. You may say that all because they are with Sony but your wrong on most off that. 2nd party yes they’re bound to say this however Lair, Resistance are 3rd party and are independent, they choose to develop for the PS3 over the rest. Lair guys made the Star Wars games on Gamecube and now they choose the PS3 even though its the most difficult to develop for out of the 3. Ninja Theory seem to only develop for the most powerfullist thats why the went to the xbox from PS2 and now there coming back to the PS3 with rumoured of a next Dead or Alive being exclusive to PS3. I take this with a pick of salt but won’t say it can’t happen if Ninja Theory love the more powerful console. Haze is another where its being built from the ground up for the PS3, this is why its a timed exclusive. Another thing about Metal Gear being exclusive is that Hideo Kojima has already stated that he wants to utilise the blu-ray disc and DVD 9 is just not big enough. He has also dead that everyone of his team is dedicated to developing Metal Gear on PS3 dev kits for the PS3. He says he would never split his team to work on 2 different platform simultanously. If there was to be a metal gear on 360 the PS3 version would have been on the store shelf way before they started on the 360 so it could be like a year or more after the PS3 release before you see a 360 release. Metal Gear 3 never came to xbox.
No matter how good you think the wii-mote is the fact is that it only works for gimmicky party games, those type of games get boring quick and the Wii lacks AAA titles. I’ve read so many posts from people who got bored after 2 weeks, the motion control wears off just like anything else. At the end of the day its all about the quality of the games not how we play them but what we play. The only way to keep playing is to constently have a good line-up of quality games. otherwise you stop playing. PS3 had a better launch line-up than the Wii.If the PS3 had a lower price then every PS fanwould have bought one. The Wii has a low price point and thats a main factor for the Nintendo fans to buy one and don’t forget you nintendo fans have had a gap from console games due to the lack of anything for the cube for the remainder of 2 years of the cubes life, so your bound to jump to the Wii. The Wii hasn’t been bought for the many titles available but rather for the wii-mote, but then the games stop and you end up using the virtual pad more than the wii-mote for the virtual Console games. And the excitement of the motion control fades and its all down to the games again and thats where the fun ends when you find it a constent release of party games all the time and no real killer apps or AAA titles form 3rd publishers. 3rd Publishers are also losing out and getting frustrated with sales as the Majority of software sales is coming from Nintedo and this shouldn’t be the case, its lucy for some that Wii development isn’t constly when they make simple games with no gfx, AI, physics, etc.
My mates has been holding back buying a Wii till Metroid and Mario Galaxy comes. He is a biased Nintendo fan and he honestly said that he’d be lying if he said that he’s looking forward to loads of games, thats the only 2 he wants and Zelda isn’t enough to buy a console for. At the end of the year when more titles come for the holiday season the only ones buying Wii titles will be Nintendo fans and a small minority of kids buying fun games and shrek type games. There isn’t anything to look forward to, the Wii’s out, the buzz is gone for its capabilities and the console won’t evolve and Nintendo say they want to sell 35 million in the US in 5 years. The technology was out of date when they first came up with the specs. 2012 we will all have HD TV’s with HD content all around us and the Wii will be the only ones with out it all. Its like if 1st ipods are still selling now. It gets old and people want the next thing. The PS2 lasted becasue of the amount of quality titles through the years that kept it alive. This isn’t going to happen with the Wii and will end up like the Cube. Wii sales are only slightly better than what the Cube was in the same time period and probably less than what the N64 was. Its always a promissing start then after acceleration a complete halt, very much like the cheetah. Sony products are like a running camel in the desert, not as fast but can keep up the pace longer than anything else.

There is so much more as well about the PS3’s evolvment and soon everyone will be buying Blu-ray players when Blu-ray is the next format and the heavens are saying it will. Nintendo fans will be eating there words in the future and I can’t wait.

    Wii is now & later!

Nintendo is original & will make something ultra powerful in the future after taking in a few more billion!

  2. Wii kills the PS3 on May 27th, 2007 9:07 am

“Nintendo fans will be eating there words in the future and I can’t wait.”

What? You mean like you Sony fanboys ate your words when the Wii launched?

OMG the guy who wrote that whole comment must be an idiot. In his first paragraph all he does is keep rephrasing the same thing over and over. I’m to tired to argue, but the Wii WILL be a killing factor for the PS3 whether you like it or not. And SSBB and all the other good games that are about to come out are going to be the final nails in the PS3’s coffin.

  3. Alex Fox on May 27th, 2007 9:35 am

I agree with you so much. I love you!

  4. Ryan on May 27th, 2007 10:31 am

Right… why did you say Sony has lots of exclusives? Sony has a handful of exclusives at most, and then most of these are either first party or have been paid off by SCE.

At the start of the article your aim was to compare the Wii and PS3, yet the Wii receives a smaller mention than the 360.

You might be a biased Sony fanboy who thinks they will dominate another generation, but soon you will have to accept it will not happen.

Sony made the mistake of becoming arrogant in the same way Nintendo did with the N64, in that they feel they can do what they want because they are so successful, but what they fail to realise is that the market does not feel the same way.

Sony might lower the price of its console, but if its lost all support at that point then it may be too late.

Even if Xbox and Playstation produced AAA after AAA game they would still have a smaller console market than the Wii, Why? Because they are aiming at different markets with different market saturation rates.

Wii has the potential to reach over a 300 million user base by 2014, PS3 and Xbox 360 do not.

The wii does get boring after a while.2 months and i had enough.Zelda was great.Games like call of duty 3 and doulbe agent don’t work too well for it and red steal is overrated, you don’t have as much movement with the sword as you think.
The party games are fun for a few days but then what. It’s left gathering dust.
The mojority of people buying the wii aren’t harecore gamers so there not going to be playing much after awhile.
Nintendo are trying to cater for everyone but it’s mainly the average person there marketing.
In the end the thrend will end.
(I’d probably buy one again if there was more games that interest me “real games”.

  7. Pants on May 27th, 2007 11:24 am

    totally boring!!!!!!

  8. Dale on May 27th, 2007 11:29 am

Yea there was motion sensing for the ps2 but like the ps3 it was only tilt, and sony didn’t make the ps2 motion controller it was a third party that did that. And nintendo’s tilt controller is obviously alot more different and advanced from just tilting it side to side. And what does he mean the constant release of part game, Rayman raving rabbids and mario party 8, ffs, do your research try Red steel, heatseeker, sonic and the secret rings, Zelda the twilight princess, Excite truck, super mario strikers charged and many others out to come like disaster day of crisis, mario galaxy, project H.A.M.M.E.R., super smash bros brawl, Metroid Prime corruption, battalion wars 2, Manhunt 2, Madden, Nights, Ghost squad, fire emblem, Resident evil 4 and umbrella cronicoles, WWE smackdown vs raw and there are many more. People who say the wii is littered with party game are clearly misled or just plain ignorant and want to come up with a quick reason to persuade people not to buy the wii, ignorant fan boy.

  9. Melissa J on May 27th, 2007 11:30 am

I could NOT careless who console sell more units.
There are millions of chevys and a few BMW.
The ps3 is what i want, i want the best, you can go with the rest of lumbs.
The WII just sell ilusions…let me xplain, the wiimote can detect movement, but not acurate, it randomly select the direction and speed, creating a FALSE ilusion of controling at the exact angle, speed, velocity, etc.
In a expo i saw how 2 play tennis with the wii, a young man, putting his best to try to emulate how in the real life he would use the raquet, long and detailed swuim, just like a dance, versus a child, the child just use one hand not like the other man try to balance their body and movement, putting the rigth leg in front and the other behind to maximixe the strike.
so the child, standing normal, with one hand in his jeans pocket, and the hand with the wiimote at chest high, and using just his fingers, move so slightly the wiimote, a fairytale shake more her magic stick, anihilated the other man.
It was so funny see that boy win the tournament and earn a pre-release wii brand new, and look so bored just moving his fingers, but was more funny the faces of other people when saw how the boy win each round, and his oponnent look awful dancing, swiming, make more exercise that if playing a real tennis match and still lose.
Thats why the wii sell just ilusion.

  10. Dale on May 27th, 2007 11:32 am

And yea in the future every one will probably be buying blue ray players but by that time there will be another set of console, the next gen, this is one reason why the ps3 is to ahead of its time.

  11. Joan / The Wii just sell ilusions? on May 27th, 2007 11:42 am

your story is for real, or are you just a biased fan melissa?

  12. Mary on May 27th, 2007 11:44 am

    what story?

  13. Benn - The wii just sell ilusions on May 27th, 2007 11:56 am

    let me xplain.
in a expo i saw a tennis tournament played in a wii, the prize a brand new pre-release WII.
i saw a men putting his best, trying to emulate the movement of the raquet, even putting the rigth leg in front and the other behind to maximise the strike.
play against a kid, the kid was standing with a hand in his jeans pocket, and the other hand with the wiimote at chest high, it move so sligtly it with his fingers, a fairytale shake her magicstick more, still the kid win the man.
the wiimote can detect motion, but not acurate, it detect the motion but not the real velocity, angle and direction, it just detect the motion and the wii randomly create the variables, creating the sensation or ILUSION of controling the raquet in-game,exactly how you move the wiimote.
it was so funny see how the kid, looked bored playing just standing, win that tournament, more fun look at the faces of the xpectators, see how this kid anihilated every man standing bored, when their oponents swiming, dancing, and moving more than a real teenis match.
Thats why the WII is just ILUSIONS

  14. wiikillsps3 on May 27th, 2007 12:38 pm

i sorry but this guy is stupid it doesnt matter how long one company has been studying a certain program or thing to put it in there next console ex motion senseing u say sony was studing it long ago and had patents well guess what nintendo had patents also thats why u dont see ps3 filing law suit against em its not who has the idea first its who comes out with the idea first sony may have had the eyetoy but nintendo step up that game with space motion meaning ur body movements can be deteacted in the game where every u move towards sony may end up copying nintendo and u know nintendo may just have something up there sleeves to be one step ahead again or maybe something that prevents this!

  15. Darth on May 27th, 2007 1:12 pm

“Nintendo copied and they are ruthless business men just like everyone else.”
I agree with the buiseness part but may I remind you of the power glove? And you accuse Nintendo fans of bias. That’s fine, I’m a Ninty fan and I can admit that but can you? Your article is full of it! Also games on wii to look forward to:
    -Mario Galaxy
    -Smash bros Brawl
    -Metroid Prime 3
    -Animal Crossing Wii
    -DISASTER: Day of Crisis
    -Project HAMMER
    -Battalion Wars 2
-Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles, the crystal Bearers
    -No More Heroes
-Wii Music (I’m a musician, nuff said)
    just to name a few.

I’m fine with the PS3 having motion control BUT at the expense of losing something as mandatory as force feed back is damn rediculous!

  16. Mojo thinks you're wrong on May 27th, 2007 1:39 pm

“Wii has no triple AAA titles,” - ??- Resident Evil, Manhunt, Tomb Raider, Mario Galaxy, Zelda and more…

“We all have high-def screen” -??- Only 35% in the US and 12% in the UK have HD screen (few of them are full 1080 for the blu-ray)

    “The PS3 is over-priced” - Agree ;)

  18. Gamer on May 27th, 2007 3:29 pm

I own a Wii as well and after about a month I was back on my PS3 again. It’s cool and all at first, but then it starts to get old. If you’re a gamer, you tend to want to do some real gaming. Maybe when I’m 80 I’ll get back into the Wii again.

  19. PS3 is coming up on May 27th, 2007 3:33 pm

Just wait until the last quarter of the year. Everyone will be wanting a PS3. MGS4, Heavenly Sword, and Uncharted all up in your face. You all wil be saying, “Mommmy mommy I want one!”.

  20. elmarko on May 27th, 2007 3:39 pm

Honestly who cares about which is better? Didn’t you grow out of these sorts of discussions when you left the playground?

PS3’s better than Wii? Wii’s are better than PS3’s? Blah, Blah. Whatever. Could your dad beat up my dad as well you losers?

Just play your games, be happy with the choice of machine you made and everytime you get an itch to write a long rambling post about which is better the PS3 or the Wii why not go outside and look at the world, maybe talk to a girl. Anything, basically, which stops these stupid posts which we’ve all read 1,000 times before reappearing.

I’m so bored of these pissing contests it’s untrue.

  21. Steve on May 27th, 2007 5:28 pm

The Dreamcast used motion control 7 years ago in it’s fishing rod controller, which could also be used for some other games like Virtua Tennis.

Infact playing tennis with the fishing rod was more acurate, that the Wii’s remote, although a tad more difficult.

The six axis was a half-assed responce to nintendo announcing it’s motion controls and the Microsoft SideWinder Freestyle Game Pad has existed for some time.

An argument about who stole off of who is futile, motion sensing is just an available technology that any hardware maker could choose to use in some form if they wish.

Nintendo is the first to build a console around the controller, meaning all Wii games will use it’s fuctions.

It seems to be paying off right now but only the time will tell if it’s another fad or the gaming stanard of the future.

Personally, having used all these devices i prefer good old fashioned joypad and rumble for the majority of games but unlike some i can’t claim to predict the future.

  22. Ps3 will lose on May 27th, 2007 5:37 pm

To all you saying wii will lose, and its boring the problem is wii was underestimated so hardly anyone made games for it. But now that its out and breaking sales records and companies lose money they have come to their senses and are now planning many games for the winning console. (heres a hint its not snow and its not microsoft) give up the answer to who will when nintendo!

  23. KYe on May 27th, 2007 7:10 pm

basically, that huge comment was the most boring thing to read ever…
not only did they repeat themselves about 100 times, its completly unaccurate…
ok i agree the PS3 will get more popular in time as the price drops, but im sure the popularity of the Wii will continue as it is just so much fun…even if the games get boring quickly, theres so many games out for the wii compared to the PS3, that unless you dont have a life, will give you plenty of pplaying time…

  24. Zman the Wise on May 27th, 2007 7:26 pm

Dissappointing, more of a rant than a comparison really. Unfortunately, in business, it’s not who has the Idea first, it’s who it willing to take the risk and incorporate something new and innovative. Fact, Sony has been content to follow from the beginning when Kutaragi attempted to underhandedly steal all the nintendo characters. Their philosophy is, if it aint broke, dont fix it, which is fine, as long as you are able to deliver the same old same old. Unfortunately,Sony’s innovative powerhouse machine using the powerful Cell processor has been unable to deliver graphics and framerate even equal to XBOX360. So it’s not innovative(And please no one tell me Blu ray is a fantastic innovation because it’s just a bigger CD)Neither is it capable as far as we’ve seen of delivering the best of classical dual analog play. Hopefully Sony’s videogame division will be able to get some of the market share because competition is good for the industry. Their nly hope lies in their age old strategy, follow, imitate, incorporate. A smart move for the creators of a failing system, hopefully they’ll be less down on gimmicks come E3. Haha I misspelled Wise!

  25. John on May 27th, 2007 11:34 pm

You Sony fanboys just need to get your heads out of the clouds. No matter how much you call the Wii a “gimmick” it continues to double PS3 sales here in the US and decatuple the sales in Japan. The argument of gimmick would only exist if Nintendo sales had dropped shortly after its release. In that case, SIXAXIS is a gimmick since PS3 sales are plummeting after its release. The “gimmicky” Wii-mote is also being hailed “as good as a keyboard and mouse” by many who have played Metroid Prime 3. Developpers are jumpingh ship to Wii as they see the install base growing exponentially. I will bet that the Wii wins this generation’s console race. Deal with it.

  26. Will on May 28th, 2007 8:16 am

The article above I wonder if it is proving a point, Sony may have talked about it, but, have they really done anything in the motion sensing department?
I have seen EyeToy, nothing much, fairly simplistic, anyone can use a camera to focus in and write the algorithms, Nintendo finally came out with a fully functional motion sensing device, and has incorporated it into the Gui as a pointing device. As far as I know, it is a simple system to use, took me no time at all, works very much like a Macintosh in the time of DOS and other keyboard-operated systems of that period. As far as I know, point, get a small description of each application, click.
Microsoft shows text with their main menu system, but, is missing the pointing device, and, Sony doesn’t have any descriptions or pointing devices in their Cross Menu system.
XMB makes sense as an abbreviation, but, why the heck would anyone call it the Xross Menu Bar? To me, it just reads, “zross menu bar” in phonetics, similar to the way Xylophone is pronounced. Introducing Eyetoy, along with the VR-3D system, as well as a rumble version of SIXAXIS probably won’t gain them much more popularity because it will confuse and thus frustrate customers. I can see something cycling here like another once-hardware-manufacturer starting with an S: Sega. Sega had some apparently good ideas, but, they also confused customers with all of the attachments and “upgrades” for Genesis, most people were not too interested in their hardware, and finally gave up on the hardware. Sony may have incorporated some form of motion sensing functionality. Like I said on another blog, this may go the way of the Mattel NES Glove too. Make a choice, Sony, VR-3D or SIXAXIS for your main PS3 games.

  27. Will on May 28th, 2007 8:22 am

ZMan the Wise has a good starting point, for a Canadian who first thought that a fellow Scottish-Canadian settler, Alexander Graham Bell invented the telephone, when, actually, he was first to the patent office with this device, this applies to Nintendo in the same way, while Sony was busy talking about it, Nintendo came out with a successful device and ran.

  28. benny on June 6th, 2007 2:31 pm

thats really funny. that its the bigest wussy waa waa load of crap i have ever read. sony have been dethroned. get over it! wii will win because nintendo have thought their strategy out very very well. they profit something like $50 on each machine sold. they know what the market needs and they are catering for it. the same way starbucks have capitalised on coffee and the same way apple have with mp3 players. what does sony make on every ps3 sold? well that actually loose money! Nintendo will make the move to power and HD when its nesesary. but at the moment and possibly for the next 3-4 years its not nesesary and a waste of money for both developers and consumers. miyamoto and iwata have both commented and said that HD is something nintendo will look to in the future. the comment from “Ps3 will lose” is exactly right, the wii was underestimated and developers were not sure it would be succesful, hence the massive drought on games. Now that developers are all jumping on board, this little machine that couldnt is gonna “kick ass and take names”. The relese of metroid prime 3 will give developers a great map for creating more intuitive and responsive ffps, and all who have played it are commenting that the controls do rival the pc keyboard and mouse setup. I know ubisoft kinda missed it with redsteel but to tell you the truth, however i still prefer that control scheme to dual analog sicks. if that game had a better multiplayer, was online and didnt have such a crap ending maybe it would have sold 2 mil copies instead of just over 1 mil. graphics do not make a game. damnit how fun and addictive can bloody tetris be! and i dont need that in HD running in 1080. The PSP came to the market with the same strategy as the ps3, power and graphics, the DS kicks its ass, the sales gap is insane! if the games are fun and engaging, people will keep playing. have this conversation this time next year and see where wii sits with AAA titles. the wii 5 years from now or even 4 years from now will be out of date, but seriously for 350 bucks in australia, i payed more for my ipod! its three weeks rent! i dont mind if the console is upgraded becuse it will still be 100% backwards compatible and have everthing i want in a console. And after three years of playtime i think i will have got my 350 bucks worth.

and no one can defend the SIXAXIS, that cockup was a half assed product of sony’s ‘me to’ attitude at e3 last year. a tilt controller and an online arcade thats xbox live with a different color. jeez sony you have droped the ball this gen.

  29. Tommy on June 7th, 2007 8:44 pm

    Problems with the PS3:
It has the air of a failing console, why would i pay 630 euros for something which is not even cool to have? (there will also be problems with publishers as a result)

It cost 630 euro without even the component cables meaning it costs 670 euro without a game. Thats compared to 400 for a 360 with a game and the component cables.

Grand theft auto is on 360 now ( and i would be willing to bet my arm that there will be at least one more exclusive jumping ship).

Graphics are not everything. Not everyone is a nerd!!!! they are there to enhance the experience not be the experience. For instance the graphics on motorstorm honestly took my breath away, but after an hour i was bored.

What on god given earth were sony thinking with this thing. Ok it could probably calculate the meaning of life. To me the crux of the problem is that sony tried to dictate to the market place what it wanted. I can only imagine one bright spark coming out at sony and saying “What the market place want is high end, expensive equipment and gamers want photorealistic graphics. Thats it!!!!!!. And they want it because we say they want it.”

Look i don’t want to sound like a sony basher, I really wanted to like the PS3 and eventually get one, but they really let me down. I had a PS1 and PS2 and was going to buy a PS3, but there is not a hope now. It just in no way excites me.

  30. sonicguy on June 7th, 2007 9:22 pm

Hes says that sony didn;t copy ninty, yea I can relate to that, but you can’t say that sony would no have quickly put together the six axis controller if nintendo had not shown the wii-remote. And non the less the wii remote is better.

  31. Penguin dude on June 12th, 2007 12:22 am

Even my friend who has a PS3 doesn’t want it. At 1st he thought it would dominate, but after a bit, he realized it would suck and he wanted a Wii. But it was too late, so he got screwed over with one of the crappiest consales in history. Too bad his dad won’t let him geyt another consale.
The definite winner is going to be Wii. I went to a Target a few weeks ago to get a Wii, but they said they had just sold out all 27 of their Wiis that day that they just got. ANd how many PS3s were there? Too may to count. And Wii has sold about 7.5 million across the world, and is doing 5 times as good in Japan as PS3. And it’s catching up to even the 360, which is at 11 million worldwide.

  32. sonicguy on June 14th, 2007 10:46 pm

I think that every thing Penguin dude said is everything that sony fanboys denie. Even though they Most of them are facts.

  33. Penguin dude on June 15th, 2007 2:13 am

Some fans accept it. It’s just the super-fans that can’t accept change say Sony is still on top.

  34. sonicguy on June 15th, 2007 1:55 pm

Yea they can get so ignorant and can’t accept that sony’s not on top any more and now it seems like nintendo are about to reagain their gaming crown from the recent and surprisingly huge amount of sales from the DS and wii. Nintendo mucked up the Game Cube and many ninty fanboys admit that but the biggest sony fan boys can’t seem to admit that sony have made a blunder with the ps3.

  35. sonicguy on June 15th, 2007 1:57 pm

I think that alot of sony fanboys seemed to have thought that sony was invincible and can’t admit that there not on top any more.

  36. Penguin dude on June 16th, 2007 12:26 am

Just like Sony. I’ve read an interview where the Sony CEO said that the PS3 was the best launch they ever had because people were staying out in the cold. I wonder if he knows that people do that for every console, even the Gamecube. He also said several other things about it being so great and still not acknowleging any competition.
