Unmoddable Nintendo Wii: Japan is making them

Unmoddable Nintendo Wii
No console company likes modders and that includes the recent news on Microsoft stopping modded Xbox 360’s getting on Live, but now it’s the Nintendo Wii’s turn.

The Nintendo Wii has already had changes made to the games console to stop modders, but they have found ways around these changes and now the company is having another go at stopping them.

To stop people messing with the Wii’s insides there is a rumor that Nintendo has taken a drastic step of actually “snipping some of the pins from the surface-mounted IC on the Wii’s motherboard“.

If this is true then it’s simply amazing how far Nintendo will go to stop modders, as this will make the current crop of modchips virtually useless.

Apparently this only currently affects Wii’s sold in Japan as it’s only the NTSC-J model, but if true then it will only be a matter of time before they do it to Wii’s in other countries.

Knowing how this mod news goes, the modders will find a way round this in no time and this update will not be immune for long.

I have always been one to play by the rules so this does not affect me, but anyone modding their Nintendo it’s up to them and we all have a choice, but I know mine.

The bottom line is workarounds will always happen and companies will keep changing things.
