Sony PS3 to Become Nintendo Wii with VR/3D Game Controller

The Nintendo Wii might not be the best in graphics but it has to be said that it is a great way to exercise.
Sony has come up with an idea to help with the slow selling PS3 against the very popular Wii.
Sony’s plan of attack is to develop a VR/3-D controller which will be a handheld computer interactive device.
The VR/3-D is meant to be able to take the abilities of the Wii controller a step further.
The sensors in the glove can be triggered by your fingers individually which will help you grasp objects or use each finger to do a different function.
We all know that lately that Virtual Reality/3D game control devices have been the rage for example the Wii Remote, but the Wii remote can only track your 3D hand movements the VR gloves can capture a wider array of control movements.
What if you could have a device that was as easy to use as the Wii controller but could capture all of your hand movements including your fingers this would be cool.
Well Sony thinks so too and may have a 3D PS3 game controller to prove it.
Let’s just hope it is as good as it sounds.

Haruku.
This is what Sony has been talking about all this time. Ever since the movie Minority Report in I think 2001 Sony has said they’ve always wanted to replicate the motion gloves that Tom Cruise uses. There are inteviews from Phil Harison dated in 2002 with him talking about motion control and patents that have been filed with motion technology all way before Nintendo had the idea to add motion control. Sony copied Nintendo? give me a break. Sony has interviews, article wriiten upon it, patents filed all for motion control and eyetoy with motion control all before Nintendo announced it. Nintendo came up with motion controllers first why becasue they announced it first? no its not who announces it first came up with the idea first. You have motion control for the PS2 so because Nintendo annouced it for the Wii does this mean Sony can’t have motion for the PS3? Bollocks to that, Nintendo copied and they are ruthless business men just like everyone else. You are in a belief that the boses at nintendo are angels.
And Sony hasn’t lost Metal Gear, it has to be announced that Metal Gear is going to 360 not rumoured. If you believe in rumours than heres one for ya, Nintendo is leaving the console race. But then you only choose what you want to believe as long as it make you happy and its possitive towards Nintendo. Developers are praising the PS3 more and more and there is going to be more Killer apps this year for PS3 than any other console. You also now getting developers building their codes for PS3 and then going to port them to 360. It was 360 first because they have been making these games for a while now and only had 360 development kit long before PS3 kits, so they’ve had no choice to develop for the 360 first. Now that the PS3 kits are there and Sony providing them with more tools and better support. The developers are slowly getting grips with the PS3’s arcitecture and staring to develop for PS3 first. More developers are coming out saying how powerful the PS3 is. You may say that all because they are with Sony but your wrong on most off that. 2nd party yes they’re bound to say this however Lair, Resistance are 3rd party and are independent, they choose to develop for the PS3 over the rest. Lair guys made the Star Wars games on Gamecube and now they choose the PS3 even though its the most difficult to develop for out of the 3. Ninja Theory seem to only develop for the most powerfullist thats why the went to the xbox from PS2 and now there coming back to the PS3 with rumoured of a next Dead or Alive being exclusive to PS3. I take this with a pick of salt but won’t say it can’t happen if Ninja Theory love the more powerful console. Haze is another where its being built from the ground up for the PS3, this is why its a timed exclusive. Another thing about Metal Gear being exclusive is that Hideo Kojima has already stated that he wants to utilise the blu-ray disc and DVD 9 is just not big enough. He has also dead that everyone of his team is dedicated to developing Metal Gear on PS3 dev kits for the PS3. He says he would never split his team to work on 2 different platform simultanously. If there was to be a metal gear on 360 the PS3 version would have been on the store shelf way before they started on the 360 so it could be like a year or more after the PS3 release before you see a 360 release. Metal Gear 3 never came to xbox.
No matter how good you think the wii-mote is the fact is that it only works for gimmicky party games, those type of games get boring quick and the Wii lacks AAA titles. I’ve read so many posts from people who got bored after 2 weeks, the motion control wears off just like anything else. At the end of the day its all about the quality of the games not how we play them but what we play. The only way to keep playing is to constently have a good line-up of quality games. otherwise you stop playing. PS3 had a better launch line-up than the Wii.If the PS3 had a lower price then every PS fanwould have bought one. The Wii has a low price point and thats a main factor for the Nintendo fans to buy one and don’t forget you nintendo fans have had a gap from console games due to the lack of anything for the cube for the remainder of 2 years of the cubes life, so your bound to jump to the Wii. The Wii hasn’t been bought for the many titles available but rather for the wii-mote, but then the games stop and you end up using the virtual pad more than the wii-mote for the virtual Console games. And the excitement of the motion control fades and its all down to the games again and thats where the fun ends when you find it a constent release of party games all the time and no real killer apps or AAA titles form 3rd publishers. 3rd Publishers are also losing out and getting frustrated with sales as the Majority of software sales is coming from Nintedo and this shouldn’t be the case, its lucy for some that Wii development isn’t constly when they make simple games with no gfx, AI, physics, etc.
My mates has been holding back buying a Wii till Metroid and Mario Galaxy comes. He is a biased Nintendo fan and he honestly said that he’d be lying if he said that he’s looking forward to loads of games, thats the only 2 he wants and Zelda isn’t enough to buy a console for. At the end of the year when more titles come for the holiday season the only ones buying Wii titles will be Nintendo fans and a small minority of kids buying fun games and shrek type games. There isn’t anything to look forward to, the Wii’s out, the buzz is gone for its capabilities and the console won’t evolve and Nintendo say they want to sell 35 million in the US in 5 years. The technology was out of date when they first came up with the specs. 2012 we will all have HD TV’s with HD content all around us and the Wii will be the only ones with out it all. Its like if 1st ipods are still selling now. It gets old and people want the next thing. The PS2 lasted becasue of the amount of quality titles through the years that kept it alive. This isn’t going to happen with the Wii and will end up like the Cube. Wii sales are only slightly better than what the Cube was in the same time period and probably less than what the N64 was. Its always a promissing start then after acceleration a complete halt, very much like the cheetah. Sony products are like a running camel in the desert, not as fast but can keep up the pace longer than anything else.
There is so much more as well about the PS3’s evolvment and soon everyone will be buying Blu-ray players when Blu-ray is the next format and the heavens are saying it will. Nintendo fans will be eating there words in the future and I can’t wait.
Another thing about the Developers speaking out about PS3’s powerand if you still think there bound to say that bollock argument, then here’s one for ya. EA came out and said that developers need cell for FPS. I’ve read cooments on this saying bull Gears looks great and Call of duty 3 and what have you. But EA is thinking way more advanced than those game and there talking not just graphically better but AI, lighting, Physics etc. If there were 50 million PS3’s out there and 50 million 360’s and every developer was 3rd party not and not willing to be exclusive to one platform and I’m talking every developer, even the ones for Nintendo. But all these developers had been given the choice to choose between development for the PS3 haedware or the 360 hardware, lets say for argument sake that it was an international law that they could only choose one. I would say that they would all choose PS3 or nearly all at the least. With 100 % development behind one machine they’ll know that they would get more from the PS3’s power. EA have also said judge the PS3’s graphics in 2 years becasue we all know that thise is the case with Playstation platform, unlike the rest playstations arcitecutre take time to get to grips with and games improve graphically over the years. We saw it with PS1, then PS2 and now we’re begining to see it with PSP. GOW 2 now looks like its on another more powerful hardware when you campare it to PS2 games 7 years ago. All the devs know this is going to happen with PS3. In 2 years time there wil be much a bigger leap in visuals than you will see with 360, and then it will get better then better. In 5 years the PS3 with updated features and improved graphics wil make it seem PS3.5. Microsoft will have to bring out another console to compete. Put it this way, the PS3 has more chance of doing Crysis graphics than 360 has, maybe not right now but I few years, a possibility.
You think Sony came up with the idea of motion sensing? Are you joking? Only a Sony fanboy could possibly overlook Kirby’s Tilt and Rumble - released on Gameboy Colour. Don’t even try and claim Phil Harrison came up with Motion sensing, he just jumped on the bandwagon and tried to claim it for Sony. Which is exactly what they did with the original rumble pack on N64. Nintendo announce a rumble pack, and before you know it, Sony sticks a poor rip-off in their controllers.
You are so ignorant if you really think the console race is just about graphics - to use the PS3’s full potential requires insane levels of investment in game development, which no one is going to do unless they can guarantee the game is going to sell. Goodbye innovation, goodbye new titles - you’d better get used to GTA 15, Fifa 2020 etc. Sequel central on PS3.
And as for there being no AAA titles on Wii - there’s Zelda now, Mario Galaxy coming, Metroid, Mario Kart, Smash…sure, the list of top notch titles on Nintendo platforms is smaller than on other consoles, but the quality is out of this world. Nintendo’s first party games put anything you can find on Sony platforms to shame.
And before you jump on the ’slag off the wiimote’ bandwagon, I suggest you read some reviews about other games - ign.com has given its seal of approval to both mario strikers charged and mario galaxy, both of which use the wiimote. So that’s a football game and a platformer.
Seriously, put down your PS3 controller, open the curtains and get a life.
finaly i can give my virtual boy a rest
I think Nintendo is on to something and the rants I have seen from the PS3 crowd only prove the point. Have you noticed the adjectives used by most of the Wii bashers? They are generally rude, foul and remind me of the linguistic style used by groups of teens trying to impress one another by being openly rude to adults and family who pass by (I’m sure you have seen them at the mall or outside the movie theatre). That is the demographic for the PS3. Nintendo has basically left much of that demographic for 360 / PS3 to battle out. Which one will prove to be able to show the most realistic light shading on the side of some hapless character’s head as his brains flow out and his pixilated soul leaves him forever is anyone’s guess. I’m sure that there is quite a bit of technological overhead to such an awesome feat of raw graphical artistry. And don’t get me started on AI. I mean, if you connect me to a community, I’d take another human player over AI any day. Wouldn’t you? That’s where the fun will start (all three console makers need to work on that end of the market). Many of you are correct; PS3 wins on power, on super AI potential, and on super graphics. PS3 made the next generation extreme geek-game machine. Unfortunately, they priced themselves out of the demographic (they should have let blue ray go). Nintendo made a box that can touch at that demographic (albeit barely) and also own (and dominate) a newly opened general home console game market (smart for Nintendo since there are, well, more folks out there that aren’t extreme game-geeks). I mean, if all these super-knowledgeable game-geeks all agree that the Wii is so completely inadequate, how could the Wii continue to sell so well month after month after month? How could software companies move their priorities to the Wii? Could these knowledgeable game-geeks be missing something — I mean they ARE the dominate force in the game market aren’t they? Aren’t they indeed. Wake up, boys - you don’t own the concept of a home console. Perhaps the FPS on the exquisitely shadowed corpse come to life isn’t all that important to a larger market. Perhaps you are the niche of a larger market. The console market is a long game, but this isn’t January where Sony was telling people to wait for the real story. Game makers have shifted to the numbers and game titles are going to shift to the demographic as well. This is just a classic example of Guns VS Butter economics. Game makers are going to make what sells. Perhaps Nintendo has shown them that other things can sell besides bloodlust, horror and raw rendering power. Don’t worry; there will still be a niche for the “extreme player”. It would be stupid for game makers or console manufactures to ignore you completely. Just like the movie market, they will continue to make things that pander to you (and the rest of us will have to continue putting up with your comments as we walk by). Just watch the language around my kids, OK?
Someone mentioned how the PS3 has endless capabilities, which is a load of lies. Think about it this way Sony is using a 8Cell processor while other companies are planning to release 64cell processors, which will basically eclipse the platform.
Developers are already mentioning how Sonys PS3 is handicapped due to its limited 256 memory compared to the 512 memory in the 360’s GPU (graphical processing unit). Lets use Army of two for example which can run easily at 60FPS (frames per seond) on the 360, while Army fo two can only run at 28 FPS on the PS3.
Wii architecture will improve more over the coming years as developers have hardly been harnessing its powers so far. If we use Super Mario Galaxy as an example it looks like an advanced PS3 game. Wii has the ability to mimic any high end graphics shown on the PS3, only it is limited to how much it can display.
Now on to processing, 360 uses 3 3.4GHZ processors which can access a large amount of RAM memory for storing data, while the PS3 uses 8 much smaller processors. This means that it is harder to stream data from the PS3, but easier on the 360. For the sake of arguing the difference between the PS3/360/Wii is minor, even though the processing power is much higher in the first two aformentioned platforms, reason? This is because to get noticable differences in AI or physics much higher processing is needed (alot higher than that shown in the current next gen platforms). This is because due to the amount of characters shown the allocated code is only slightly higher in next gen platforms, but to get a significant difference a much higher amount of coding is difference.
Crysis being an example, which is impossible on PS3 or 360.
“Developers are already mentioning how Sonys PS3 is handicapped due to its limited 256 memory compared to the 512 memory in the 360’s GPU”
Devs have not mentioned anything about the limitation of Sony’s PS3 256ram beause the PS3 has 512ram. 256ram is dedicated to the gpu but it can borrow memory from the other 256ram thats dedicate to the cell. The 360’s gpu and cpu share the 512ram so does the ps3. Did you think that the 360’s gpu used all the 512mb ram? what does the cpu use. And your claims about Army of Two are false.
Booya, can you read? Saying Sony came up with an idea to use motion control does not mean Sony invented motion contol. Van Gogh had the idea of a flying contraption, does this mean the Wright brothers copied him? Or did they one day come up with the idea to create an engine airplane? I was stating that Sony and I didn’t say Phil, came up with a idea to use motion control for their playstation consoles. The patents and interviews are there all before Nintendo thought of it. I used think of it in the 16bit era, does this mean everyone is copying me?
Nintendo added the analog, so Sony did. Nintendo added the rumble, so Sony did. This time Sony added motion i.e eyetoy, came up with patents and there are interviews about adding motion, and then Nintendo did. The fact is all Nintendo’s actions with involvment with the wii-mote happened after Sony actions with what they were planning. So Nintendo came publically first, what a difference it would have made if Sony announced motion control a year earlier.
So you think Sony copied Nintendo do you? how long after Nintendo’s first showing of the wii-mote was it when Sony demoed sixaxis control in Warhawk, 5, 6 months? Are you saying that Sony designed, built, tested, patened it and had it working all in 5 months and this was all from scratch. not a chance, it takes longer for the patent to be granted. Sony had it up and running so quick due to the fact they’d been working on it for a few years, at least since 2004.
What is it with you lot? can’t accept the truth and that your faithful Nintendo isn’t all what there cracked to be.
I mention that there are no AAA titles out for the Wii and your respone to name one thats now a yesterday’s game naming Zelda, and 2 titles that are not even out yet. Never liked mario kart, Metroid on n64 are great but not system sellers but Metroid 3 didn’t look that good. Mario Strikers isn’t for me, give me Pro Soccer as I’m a soccer fan and Mario strikers seems to ruin the game of soccer, if you want a soccer game, Mario Strikers isn’t it, but it does look like multiplayer fun for others. Galaxy would be the only game for me to pick up if I owned a Wii, so where’s the games now and where are they for rest of this year?
You talk about no devs wanting to invest in PS3? You obviously don’t check want games are coming for PS3 and read into them. There are a shit load of new IP’s coming and with plenty of investment, this is what devs want to do. If 360 and PS3 died tomorrow so will the majority of the Development companies because they want to produce these sort of games. Its like asking these Hollywood film studios to stop pumping big money into all the specail effects and amazing stunts and go back to making films with less money and older technology. Some studios may accept it and go where the money is but there will be plenty of Directors wanting to make the biggest and best films, its the same with game developers.
So yes Sony will have many sequels allot some bad and some amazing but they don’t have more sequels than Nintendo does. You say GTA15, bring it on if its any good, are we already past Mario 15 and Zelda 15? When GTA15 comes out you’d be on the same number with an added naught. At least every GTA has a different story line. Zelda’s and Marios recycle theirs time and time again. What about the other Wii sequels, all those brain games and Mario Party bollocks? Tell you what, if Sony gets rid of all their sequals Nintendo should get rid of theirs. Oh, dear no more games for Nintendo fans but quirky childish party games, but at least it gets you out of your bedroom and spend more time with your parents.
Another thing about devs ambitions. I do think the Wii’s hardware limits the devs, there making simple games at where they think the money will be. Do you think that a company like Ubisoft will gets all there best programmers, 3d artist, graphic designers, coders etc, and allow them to make the game Rayman Ravin Rabbids 2? No not a chance, the most talented will be working on the big games and the not so good will be on the smaller games. Imagine what the Zelda game would have been like if it was built from the ground up from for the PS3? So much more could have been done, their own imagination would have been their limit and not the limitations of the hardware like the Wii or cube or is that the same thing? I bet the devs wanted to implement things in the game but couldn’t in the end due to limitation in the hardware. Miyamoto is a genius but imagine he was let loose to create games on better hardware, just imagine what he could do, we would get to see what he really is capable of but no, Nintendo have locked in his cage in Nintendo’s basement. To me Miyamoto is like the fast F1 car that is stuck behind the slower F1 car (which is the Wii) and because of this we don’t get to see Miyamoto’s true pace until the slower car gets out of the way and Miyamoto is let free.
Oh yeah, I just been on IGN and there is no review on Mario Galaxy and sign of aproval. But it doesn’t mean squat anyway as Wii games are reviewed by the IGN Nintendo team meaning they’re Nintendo fans like you, so they’re bound to be a little biased.
About the post above, I was in no way saying that the team behind Zelda have no talent if you think thats how it sounds to you, because they have bundles of talent, just to clear that up.
yo:
Better graphics does not automatically make a better game, m’kay? The PS2 was a lot weaker than both the GameCube and the Xbox, yet people loved it, and many many games was made for it, despite more powerful alternatives being available for the developers. Quit pretending that all professional developers somehow all hate the Wii and love the PS3.
I have nothing against an actual debate, but your comments are nothing but one large ramble of stupid arguments. Mostly about how the console with the most horsepower automatically wins no matter what, when this has not been the case EVER within gaming. The trend has just about always been that the cheaper console wins. I’m not saying that this has to be the case this time, but I find it more likely than your theory of how despite that the PS3 has almost no good games, very slow sale, and numerous attacks because of it’s overprice and other quirks, it is somehow the most popular. (just ignore that the Wii, PS2, DS, heck even GBA, still sells more than the PS3 today). The trend may change, but until it does, shut up.
As for Wii games, they will improve much too. Zelda was a GameCube title, and ported over to the Wii. Are you saying that we should wait several years to judge how good the PS3 will be, yet the Wii is okay to judge over a port that came not far after it’s release?
