Apple MacBook Core 2 Duo 2.0GHz: Cheaper than the MacBook Pro

Apple MacBook Core 2
When I first heard that Apple laptops were getting Intel Core 2 Duo Processors I thought it was a joke as this is normally PC technology, but anyway it was true and the best thing Apple and Mac have done in a while.

The Apple MacBook has some of the latest technology and the Intel Core 2 Duo Processor is one of the best laptop processors around for the perfect combination of battery life and performance.

This Core 2 Duo processor runs at 1.83GHz with a 667 MHz FSB and 2 MB Cache, do not be fooled by the lower clock speed as it is much faster than the higher speed Pentium 4’s.

The good points are:
The new Apple MacBook is much cheaper than the MacBook Pro, but has almost the same amount of performance thanks to the Intel Core 2 Duo. You also have a remote control and built-in webcam.

The bad points are:
Your only going to get 90 days of toll-free technical support (that can get expensive), lacks an important media card reader, no FireWire 800 and No ExpressCard slot.

The new Apple MacBook with Intel Core 2 Duo gives you premium performance at a great price (around $1300 to $1500) and is a much better overall deal compared to Apples higher end MacBook Pro line.

  1. Lets not forget the God-awful Intel Graphics Media Accelerator 950 (Intel GMA 950) chip installed in these laptops. Don’t even think about running any type of real game on these laptops. Apple should be ashamed of themselves, purposely putting out an inferior product to keep from robbing the move expensive, higher profit margin, MacBook Pro pro laptops.

Your so right Robert, the Intel Core 2 Duo Processor I like but trying to get games to play on this laptop is a joke.

Who is this Apple laptop made for?

Oh, that was a great review! Come on! Sure, the macbook offers almost the stuff, except for:

    - larger display
    - separate graphics card with 256 or 128mb vram
    - backlit keyboard very usful)
    - better speakers
    - Expresscard slot
    - 3 USB slots and a 800 firewire slot

I’d say that that, together, those features add up quite a bit for those who need them.

True, the Macbook is not a great choice for people who are really heavy duty gamers. For anyone else, and that is the overwhelming majority of users, it’s a wonderful choice, and good value, almost a bargain. You can of course play games - its graphics are just too slow for many of the more technically demanding games to be really enjoyable.
Fine for just about anything else though - video editing, Photoshop work and other demanding applications, no worries.
Who actually needs or would use Firewire 800? Again, only a tiny fraction of potential users. The provided Firewire 400 is still very fast for most purposes. Remember, this is a laptop, not a desktop workstation.
Besides, it comes standard with with the latest super-fast “n” Wi Fi, not to be sneezed at.
Remember, you can run either the Mac OSX, or Windows if you must, or even Linux, and go from one to the other. No non-Mac computer gives you this flexibility.
And I refer you back to the posting by Powers. Yes, the Macbook is probably better value, but the Macbook Pro (about to be updated, incidentally), does offer more features for its extra cost - if you’re one of those who has need of them.

Do NOT buy a MacBook yet! Wait for the Santa Rosa chipset with upgrade graphics controller!

    Santa Rosa or bust!
