In politics many know that YouTube is a powerful tool to bend public opinion and this is just the place for debates about the 2008 presidential candidates.
YouTube is going to co-sponsor the first of six Democratic debates of the 2008 presidential election race; this will make YouTube a battle ground for the Democratic presidential candidates.
The video site (owned by Google) is the first new media sponsor to take up this opportunity, which we would normally see this kind of political debate on mainstream news outlets (CNN is the television news channel for the debates).
It has also been said that this may all be tied into YouTube’s YouChoose campaign that will allow the presidential candidates to talk directly to viewers (this is going to be very interesting).
YouTube wants to stand the middle ground by also covering Republican debates, which would in my opinion be a very good choice as not to favour anyone side.
What are your views on this new way of having debates on the YouTube video site, do you think this is a good move in the right direction?
