This week in Sunnyvale, California we have seen AMD take the covers off its quad-core desktop CPU (codenamed Agena FX), and just a few days later on Monday 14th of May we will see AMD revealing their brand name for the Agena FX-based brand, Phenom FX.
We are currently not sure of the official launch date for Agena, but we will keep you updated (feel free to leave a comment on any news you have).
The processor was featured in two configurations with the most interesting being the dual-socket configuration as that was the first demonstration AMD has made of an 8-core desktop.
Around August or July 2007 we will see AMD’s Quad-core processor launched (codenamed Barcelona).
The Agena FX system is amazing to say the least, with AMD proving just that by demonstrating the power of this processor configuration by encoding a 1080p movie trailer into H.264 in near real-time…if you have tried this on your computer you will know what we mean by amazing.
Intel will not take these new AMD technologies likely as they also are launching desktop variants of new quad-core and dual-core configurations.
