Laptop That Saved a Soldier
We have heard of U.S. soldiers taking a bullet for a fellow soldier, but now a new friend took a bullet for a U.S. soldier in Iraq.

The CF-M34 Toughbook laptop you see in the photo above has a bullet hole which shows just how tough it is as it took a bullet for a U.S. soldier in Iraq.
The BULLETPROOF laptop from Panasonic was the constant companion of one soldier and was taken through the mountains of southeastern Turkey and into the war of Iraq.
The need for rugged laptops is growing, used by the U.S. armed forces (the 82nd Airborne Division) and it was one of these laptops that saved a soldier’s life,

An estimated market of $858 million in 2007 is expected for the need of the toughest laptops, people want toughness and the need is growing.

Just saw another article from Popular Science which stated that the round went through the door of an unarmored Humvee before hitting the laptop. That would explain why there wasn’t much energy left in the round. Would also kinda explain why there isn’t a nice round hole as the slug would have deformed after penetrating the door.

  8. The Toughbook belong to a member of the 101st Airborne (Air Assault)…Me…. I am sick of this story getting messed up. It was hit in the back of my M998 HMMWV in Mosul, IZ on 9 June 2003. It was hit in the hard drive by a 7.62 x 54R round from a PKC belt fed machine gun from a distance of 250 meters. I took a round in the sholder. All the info from the hard drive was recovered, placed on a new hard drive and sent back too me by October 2003. The round went trough two boxes of MRE’s and the carring case before being stopped by the thick disk, non-removable hard drive. Whoever this 82nd guy is is full of it. This computer is sitting in the Ft. Huachuca, AZ Military Intel Museum with my name and “101st Airborne Screaming Eagles” next to it!!!

This is dead on. About 10 years ago I installed about 1500 of the Panasonic CF-25 in San Jose CA PD cruisers. Those laptops are definately tough. They only sent 2 back for repair. One was slitghl;y chewed on by a police dog, and the other one was shot by a .38 Special (it stopped the round) at distance of roughly 20 feet. I always recommend these laptops to people who want a laptop that is rugged yet still portable.

  10. they dont have the latest and greatest firearms. he couldve been shot from a long range or even, by the looks of it just a damn handgun
