I have not used a mouse mat for about 2 years, my wood desk and laser mouse is just fine.

“then this little gadget (the Wireless Speaker Mousepad found on Sci-Fi) is pretty cool with both a speaker and mouse pad.” > No its not. Its totally pointless. Unless your PC has no speakers, and you would rather listen to your music through a mouse pad !

I do use one, simply as it’s a better surface for gaming even with an optical mouse then a wooden desk.
