The RepRap (Replicating Rapid-prototyper) has made some bold claims that just seem amazing and in the future, but they have made these claims so here we go.
The RepRap claims that it is an invention that will bring down global capitalism, save the environment and could even start a 2nd industrial revolution. (BIG WORDS)
The RepRap can even copy itself as it is made of plastic parts (the Replicating Rapid-prototyper can make copies of things with metal, ceramic or plastic parts.
It will be able to copy everyday objects (not sure how this effects copy rights if every home had one) but it could save people thousands but when you here stories like this you think even if this was possible would it just be covered up and made to disappear because of the tax governments would lose on all the sales of goods (well that’s my conspiracy theory bit).

A spinoff of the RepRap project, Tommelise, is focussed on the American parts environment and uses somewhat different technology and a different control strategy. It’s also an open source specification will let anybody with a few hand tools and primitive woodworking skills bootstrap themselves into 3D fabrication for about $150. Tommelise’s extruder is qualified for polycapralactone and is presently being qualified as well for both high density polypropylene (HDPE, the stuff your plastic cutting board is made of) and polypropylene (HPP, the stuff your coffee maker and plastic electric kettle is made of). You can keep an eye on the Tommelise project at…
