How would you like 75Mbps broadband wireless access which can broadcast up to 30 miles away? Now I heard a lot of tabloid news about this new wireless standard called WiMax or 802.16 and started thinking how nice it would be to be able to have that speed or even my own wireless net up to 30miles away which would be great in my area as I go around friends and families houses I could use my own broadband.
Now sadly this will not be the case and I should imagine will happen one day but not any time soon.
Instead we will see the first WiMax laptop cards about April 2006 time (we hope), but more realistically this will be 2Mbps over three miles which is cool but still the same as we have now as on WiMax they say for wireless local area network we should see 30 meters to 100 meters access, which is about the same as my normal wireless network I have at home now.
I do not doubt that Wimax will change the world of wireless access as it has the ability to give up to 75Mbps over a 30 mile radius but this will be used for commercial business and profit and not for our home networks – in the short term anyway…what a shame as the technology is here now, its all about money.
